This can vary a lot depending on your swing, altitude, temperature, wind, etc. For, example, in Myrtle Beach in February, it takes me a 5-iron from 150. In Ohio at 90 degrees, it takes a 7-iron. As a general rule, Assume your 6-iron goes 150. Add 10 yards as you go up (5-iron, 4, 3) and subtract 10 yards as you go down (7, 8, 9, PW, SW). Just start here and practice and you'll figure out what they are exactly for you. As you figure it out, you will notice that they do change some based on the conditions you are in.

The distance that a golf ball will travel when struck by a golf club is dependent upon many variables and therefore it isn't possible to give you a definitive answer.
Climactic conditions, the clubspeed at impact, the type of ball, the loft of the club all play a role in ther final result.
In a matching set of clubs, the loft between one club and the next is usually calculated to generate about fifteen yards of extra distance.

Distance depends on the person striking the ball.
The different number in clubs reflects the loft angle.
A 2 iron, for instance, will travel farther and lower to the ground than a Sand Wedge, which is typically a chipping or sand trap club that will go a shorter distance, much higher in the air.
But in the end, it depends largely on who is hitting it and mechanics of the swing.
