I am a ballet dancer. I have class 3 times a week at a pre-professional school. I would really like to get my hair cut in a pixie style. I'd be able to slick it back, no hair would be in my face. But do you think that they could ask me to a) get extensions or something like that b) wear a wig in performance?

Ask your instructor how she feels about short hair, and if she would require a wig for performances.
As long as you have a way to pull it back and off your face, I don't think it would be a problem.

Well I think you may as well keep your hair. That way you would always be used to it being there you may find it too awkward to perform if that is the only time that you are dealing with it. I see most dancers putting thier hair up in a bun, high on top with a braid streaming from it.

i don't know anything about ballet. but from the competitions that i saw on tv, they always tie their hair in a bun. so...i don't think short hair is a problem. plus one of the ballet dancer has shoulder length hair.

so, i think it's ok to have short hair.
