From Luke 18, it shows that the religious all obedient pharisee is nothing in the eyes of God.
18:10. Two men went up into the temple to pray: the one a Pharisee and the other a publican.
18:11. The Pharisee standing, prayed thus with himself: O God, I give thee thanks that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, as also is this publican.
18:12. I fast twice in a week: I give TITHES of all that I possess.
18:13. And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes towards heaven; but struck his breast, saying: O God, be merciful to me a sinner.
18:14. I say to you, this man went down into his house justified rather than the other: because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

No, salvation is through grace - not of works, lest any man should boast.

All religion is man made it all makes the same claim that it comes from God. This claim is partially true but people can never stand to leave Gods word alone. This is because god’s word is consistent and does not mesh well with their personal preconceptions and bigoted ideas. So they make little changes here and there injecting their thoughts into the mix tainting the word with nonsense. For this reason you should not put much faith in these ideas about god that come from others. If God wants to tell you something He is perfectly capable of telling you directly.
Maybe you should stop reading what other people say about God and ask him to tell you what he wants you to do directly. Stop reading; clear you mind and listen. When you pray get you’re talking over as soon as possible and listen. He is trying to talk to you but your mind is full of nonsense from the bible and other sources. Don’t be surprised if what you hear does not sound much like what you have been told about God. You will be hearing Gods message minus the nonsense.
In your bible study have you ever heard of the small still voice? You can't hear it if your mind is otherwise occupied with other people’s silly ideas about God. Just try it you will be surprised .

The moral to that story is God hates arrogant people.
No one is without sin.
Tites in those days was taxes. That went to pay for public services. Had nothing to do with religion but helping the poor and keeping up government services. Titeing to a church is a total different story. You are paying for religious services, something the early christians never did. Jesus said, You receive free give free. These big religious organizations take advantage of that and make millions. doing very little good with the money.
Kind of like the pharasees, they are rich while the people were poor. You want to do a good deed give the money to someone who really needs it. Like the text you quoted. That will mean more to god. Then paying someone to do a good deed.

Religion preys on the weak and the weak minded. The concept of tithing goes back to when the Catholic Church was involved in fighting wars and needed the money to bring sinners to GEEZUS at the point of a sword, so the Popes created "Indulgences" which cost a small fortune but the wealthy bought them because they guaranteed a seat in Heaven.
Stupid people still believe they can buy their way into heaven because only stupid people can believe all that religious nonsense in the first place.

Things like tithing are instructed to us by God. It is a part of our obeying what God wants us to do. Tithing will not get you into heaven. But acceptance of Jesus as your savior will and is the only way to get into heaven.
If you read the bible, there are many instructions God has layed out for us. An important part of being a Christian once you accept Jesus as your savior is obedience to God and to his word. It about obedience. It's about knowing where you place is in allignment with God in life. Obedience to God is a way of humbling oursleves to Him.

Tithing has no impact on salvation. The only thing that makes you saved is faith in Christ's redeeming sacrifice for you. And nothing will ever make you lose your salvation.
However, if you are a Christian, tithing shows your commitment to God, your attributing that all you have belongs to Him in the first place, and faith that He will provide for you.

I agree with Heir to Christ and Joyful. Salvation is through faith alone. The good works come as a result of salvation. In other words we are not saved BY good works - we are saved UNTO good works.
I am not talking about faith period. I am talking about faith in Jesus Christ. There is a tremendous difference.
Once a person come into a relationship with Jesus Christ they fall head over heels in love with Him. When you love someone you want to do things to please them. It is no different with a relationship with Jesus. We want to be with other people who are in relationship with Him and that is best found in a Bible believing church. We want help in discerning what our purpose is in life and we can best learn about that from the pastor.
All that we have comes to us from our loving Creator so when we tithe we are only giving back to God a tenth of what He has given us in the first place. I've heard it said by many people that they are far better off living on 90% of their income than they were when they living on 100%.
Churches have financial needs and pastor's deserve to be paid for the services that they are providing for us.

it's irrelevant.
because God sees the deepest desire. Because what He wants is mercy not offering.
Salvation is a Grace from God.
If our heart is full of grace we will be merciful in giving, not giving just because knowing the law of tithe

Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Mal 3:9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
IT IS YOUR CHOICE.

You can't buy your way into heaven, but lots of people try to do that. Although, the churches will be very glad to take your $$$ money -- watch any TV evangelist and you'll find out.
See the attached, in case you're wondering where your money goes. It's no wonder preachers are so rich.

Nope...salvation is through faith and works (sorry heir_to_christ)...not through money. You need faith to believe in God, and you need works to prove your righteousness in the eyes of God.
People who think they can pay their way to salvation (if not to pharisees long ago then to loony preachers like Benny Hinn) are just deluding themselves...and being suckers.
