The more I read this question, the more interested I got.

You want to know the legal age for babysitting in Ohio (well, actually just Lorain).
Or, you just want to know when you can leave a child unattended?

It sounds like you're the one looking for a babysitter, and NOT the one to do the babysitting, so I'll go on that premise. YOU have to feel comfortable with whoever you choose to leave your child with. Personally, I wouldn't hire any teen under 15 to watch my children. I'm not sure if there's governmental regulations in Ohio, but I doubt it.
As for leaving your child unattended, only YOU can know when your child is mature enough to handle every situation that might come up when you're gone. Under ten would be too young. Also, you didn't say how long you plan on leaving the child unattended. In this day and age, it's just too dangerous.

Have you checked with your town or city hall? Social services or the local hospital? Most places like the above could direct you to the answers. There might not be a legal age but there is a logical age. Giving babysitting chores to an 11 year old isn't too appropriate.
