Forward clutch burnt out common problem withClio.because the vech is ok in reverse its doubhtful that its fluid levels.Check your shift linkage for correct adjustment .Apart form this its a gearbox over haul very expensive Regards Mick.

First...check the fluid level...I had a US car that did that when the fluid level got really low. Other possibility is that the shift linkage may have come apart a little ( not hard to do on a Clio). Half of the parts are plastic ad break kind of easily.

Worst case possibility is the one of the clutches for the forward gears is stuck. You'll either have to have the auto box overhauled ( its about 850€ in Holland) or you should be able to find a used one at the breakers for about 100€. Any repair shop can drp it in for you in a few hours...but just remember you're gambling on what condition the one for the breaker yard is in.

renault clio1996 p reg i have 1.4 rt auto 3 speed auto i tryed to pull away up hill in drive it smoked under bonnet n 1st 2nd and drive gears dont engage not working can drive in reverse tho been told replace gearbox cost 1,300 pound cars done 55.000 miles is there any help need autogearbox

i assume you have checked fluid level and condition and are ok?suspect a one way roller clutch this is a job for a good transmission shop or the dealer it will not be inexpensive; your best bet will be to scour salvage yards till you find a low mileage unit and have it installed by a quality shop. if you do it yourself take care jacking and blocking as you can only be dead once. good luck

Oh Cilo automatic and is an old car not worth fix it will cost more than a car is self if they go for repairs.

check the the gear fluid or get a mechanic to look into the gearbox.

transmission is unfastened, examine the mounting bolts to make confident they're tight, once you rev it up you're choosing up the transmission sufficient to put in kit, so tighten up the bolts, desire this facilitates

If it's an automatic, it's your transmission...if standard (clutch), the linkage.
