AP : The guardsmen express a wide range of views about the war and their chief mission: protecting Army contractor KBR's supply trucks from attacks and roadside bombs. Halliburton Co., which owns KBR, and its former chief executive, Vice President Dick Cheney, come in for their share of criticism, as does the media's portrayal of the war.

The US Army and the other branches of the service are there to serve the USA. Part of their responsibilities include providing protection to US diplomats, foreign diplomats, the news media and yes, US citizens working as contractors to rebuild the infrastructure of Iraq.

And for those of you that, based on your questions and your answers, that think the army is there just to protect KBR/Halliburton's supply trucks.....you are wrong.

The US Army provides armed escorts for convoys containing KBR assets. But the army provides the same protection for every convoy and company in those convoys through Iraq. Nothing moves unless the US Army MCT (Movement Control Team) authorizes and provides armed and armored protection. I worked in Iraq for 18 months for a company (not KBR or Halliburton) that transported 99% of the food delivered to the 64 mess halls and served to the troops and contractors in Iraq. I traveled throughout much of Iraq convoys escorted and protected the guys & gals in the army. Luckily I only traveled in about 50 overland convoys before I was directed to travel by Blackhawk heliocopter, C130 or C23 aircraft. But during the 50 overland convoys we were hit by road side IED 4 times. And the army EOD teams discovered and dis-armed several other before we reached the

Only a fool would travel in Iraq without the protection of the US military. And I can promise you that every single contractor is grateful for the troops and the sacrifice and protection they provide.

You are right on the money and the winner for Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival proves this.

This documentary was put together by soldiers that concur that the primary purpose for them being there is to protect the corporate interest of KBR. It amazes me that the truth is out there about this illegal and immoral war and people are just too stupid to open their eyes to the truth. Ralph Waldo Emerson was right..."The most difficult task for mankind...is to THINK!"

The Army & Marines have protected civilian contractors in the Pacific in WWII, Vietnam and elsewhere.
Your sense of history is being clouded by your hatred for the administration, or you don't have one.

The military still serves the USA, at least that is what the "Red State" people think. You know, the ones work, pay the lion's share of taxes, and live in reality.

That may be the real reason we can't withdraw. Halliburton hasn't got the full amount of their contract yet. Maybe if Halliburton declares "mission accomplished" we can get out of Iraq.

Protecting the interests of the corporates is the prime function of the military forces in every capitalist nation. the Iraq war itself was fought for the benefit of US-Israeli ruling elites.
