I'll tell you what my religion has taught me:

Rather than Heaven and Hell being cut and dry... it is a little more complicated than that. There are different circumstances, different levels on the scale of being "good" or "bad"... therefore there are different levels of heaven... and really only one "hell". If you live your life according to God and accept his gospel, you can go to the highest kingdom of glory. If you are a fairly decent person, you can go to the next highest, and if you were an absolute jackass you go to the lowest degree of glory, which is similar to the earth as we know it today. The lowest kingdom is for people like Hitler and Osama Bin Laden. Then there is "hell" which I've been told is called Outer Darkness. That is where the people who have seen or spoken to God, but have denied him, go. You have to have literally seen God and then rejected him. It's basically the death of the soul. You're surrounded by pure darkness and the sorrow of how you got there. It's pretty sucky I would imagine... but hardly anyone can even have the chance to go there. Haha... I know this might seem WAAAY different than all other answers here, but it's what my religion teaches.

I base my beliefs on an Afterlife on accounts of Near Death Experiencers.

People who died but didn't stay dead. Thanks to modern medicine.

They say that when they died their consciousness survived.

In a fair number of cases, that consciousness, what one would call a "soul", passed from this plane of existence to another more sublime level.

Which their soul recognized as their true home.

Not everybody goes to a beautiful place; some go to what you might describe as a Hell.

One NDEer explains it this way:

There are different levels to the Afterlife (which might be better named the Beforelife) based on how developed the soul is. The baser (more negative) the soul the less wonderful the level on which it ends up.

I hate to use such a New-Agey term, but their "vibration" determines where they fit in. If there is too much negative in it, they have to go to a level of vibration that will accomodate it.

Assuming they grow spiritually in subsequent incarnations, they may elevate their vibration and move to a higher level on death.

Some NDEers assert that we can place ourselves into Hell-like environments in the Afterlife, but that is our choice to do so.

Some souls are so ashamed of what they did in their incarnations, that they place themsleves as far away from the Creator as possible in the Afterlife.

Eventually they work it out and move up, so it is said.

My disclaimer: no one really knows for sure what happens once the lights go out for good.

That is the basic truth -- we just don't know. The NDEers did not go all the way to Death -- they came back from it.

So who can say what would be the ultimate Fate?

It comes down to Faith and what we choose to believe in.

They are fictional places invented by priests to make gullible people do and think whatever the priests want. Someone said the Bible says they exist. Well, the Bible is scientifically inaccurate and has many contradictions, so I do not find that it is a reliable guide to anything. My textbook in Bible History lists many contradictions, and a book Billy Graham gave me lists more. (It glibly tries to explain them, but it doesn't succeed.) I stumble upon more without trying to find them. Only a person blind to contradictions denies that the Bible has them. I could write a book about this. I have sent a series of letters to an editor about "Bible (In)Accuracy".

I believe that Hell is here and now. And Heaven is the summerland to me, where we go to renew and review all of the lessons we have learned in THIS life. And when the time is ready, I believe that we choose when to return to earth to continue our lessons. Sort of like being in school..

I checked with several travel clubs and apparently these places are not real. At least, if they ARE real there is no known form of transportation that will take you to them. Can you post more details like a GPS location or something?

If heaven and hell don’t exist, then there is no justice

If heaven and hell don’t exist, why would I be just me? I should be the king of the world

Very real - except hell. Hell can best be described as seperation from God via second death. I trust my manual for living, the Bible.
Go well and God Bless!

Mythical tail told to simpletons to keep them hooked to the dogma of religious institutions for the sake of controlling the thought and the allegiances. Why? Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

They are real, and if you believe or not, they still are there...
