i wanted to become a mental health nurse, but like you i did not have the right gcse, exams for me to enable to aply to a uni stright away. so i looked around and got lots of addvice, there are ways of trying to get into uni and start a midwifer course, one if your old enough which i would strongley addvice is a acess to health care and nursing studies, which u will learn about nursing, maths, enlish, information technology, sience which will be all 3, which is physics, boilogy and chemestry, you will also do commnications which is brillent because once you start at uni you will have to learn to be able stand in front of your class and give a pressentation on something, not only does this have an addvantage, you are continualy being assessed which means there is no large exams to sit at the end of the 1 year course. also a lot off university's like people who do this type of course, as you gain a tremendos insight into wot nursing is all about, and the qualifications you come out with are all a level eqevilent, you also get to practise how to write out application forms for uni's.

as i said there is anothr way off going round this where you can sit a dct1 exam and if u fail this then u can do a dc2 and if you fail that you can sit a dc3 exam, but i would not higly recomend this way of entry as the dct1 exam is hard enough then the last two 2, 3 geteven harder. this is also know as pretty main knowledge those who sit the exams on the dct test hardly every get into the course.

So if i was you depending on your age if your 19 then go and do the access course as you will learn so much about what nursing is all about. or if u are under that age you could contact your local college and re sit your gcse exams, but remember they will excpect c or above in english and maths and i alos think sience.

good luck in whoteve you decide to do and i hope it all works out to oplain for you and soon you go onto the road of your dream in becoming a midwife.xxxx irishdancer

Difficult without your Highers. You should contact your local colleges first to see if you can upgrade your Standard Grades and Intermediate Levels. Since I don't know where you live I cannot recommend local college websites but I am sure you can find these no bother. BTW, a woman I know is a Midwife over in Easterhouse and warns you to be prepared for a few 'name days' - twin patients a few years ago were called Armani and Versace.

hunny im just starting mine in sep u need to contact your local collage and enrol on a higher acess course you will need to take a test called test the city in english and maths this will determine if u take the acess course over 1 or 2 years after that its applying for unis be warned its a very competive field and u will be asked to make other choices also if ur over 19 with a middle to low income its all free otherwise theres a small fee about 290 to pay just log on to your local collage website and take it from there good luck

Midwives have alot extra triaing then nurses, no longer putting your mom down, yet they are knowledgeable extra like ob/gyn's. think of of it this way what if something is going incorrect, the infant gets caught, there is cord around the neck etc might you desire a registered midwife there. whether it rather is desiring your mom to furnish te infant the midwife will enable her do it, they enable fathers do it because of fact with them it rather is all approximately your beginning plan. i might have you ever mom come and stay with you some days until now you due date because of fact exertions would nicely be one million hour or 40 8 hours you by no ability be responsive to. verify via you insurence employer what midwives are lined after which you will check out on line what comments and score they have from others. stable success

Try you local college website for access courses, you can enter these as long as you're over 19 and you don't need any qualifications but you will have to do the English, maths and science along with it and probably more subjects it's also free.

Get in touch with your local college or university and they will let you know what courses are available in your area and what qualifications are required. I know that allowances can be made for mature students wanting to enter the profession. Good luck.
