At present, when staying at our static caravan we unplug the connections from the back of the sky box, take it with us, and connect it up with the sky dish at the caravan to receive our normal package of channels.

If we replace our sky box with a Sky + box, will we still be able to do this?

I have read that an extra cable is required between the sky dish and the sky + box to enable the recording function, and wondered if the fact that we have no extra cable at the caravan will stop us from using sky altogether.

You wouldn't be able to use your Sky+ in your caravan unless an someone from Sky came out and helped up set it up at your caravan.

Sky+ boxes contain 2 tuners to allow you to record 1 channel while watching another (or to record 2 programmes while watching a pre-recorded programme). This is why 2 cables are required.

However, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work (with reduced functionality) with just one cable. Give it a try.

Why not try unplugging 1 cable at home and see if you can still use your Sky+ box. That should give you an idea.

If you only have one cable you should still be able to watch sky but definitely won't be able to record.

Have a look at this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/60cm-Satellite-Dish-LNB-for-Sky-Digital-TRIPOD-nr_W0QQitemZ170015552150QQihZ007QQcategoryZ29783QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
you maybe able to run an extra cable (record) from the dish but you will need a quad LNB.
