I could go on about the chemical interactions inside and between humans, but quite frankly, it is simply the emptiness inside a person's heart, that can be easily filled (or drained again) by another.

Spending time with them, doing fun things, making memories, learning about them and what their likes and dislikes are, the good times as well as the bad times, helping them thru troubled times. All these things create emotional bonds between two people.
