just something i don't understand. a person joins the army and when the goin' gets tough - they complain. the army is an institution with one - and only one - duty: TO FIGHT WARS. that's why they have weapons and tanks and all the other equipment to kill. what do you expext when you join the army? you aren't joining a party club or a sports team. it's for fighting a war!!

@megan: of course i compain - but not because my boss tells me to do somthing i was hired for! and i never say "i didn't expext that i have to clean other peoples ****" because it's part of my job! and i knew it was part of it. a soldier was hired to fight and maybe he will die! and he knows that when he joins the army! so i am quite stunned when i hear soldiers say "i didn't expext that i had to fight a war"

I was not one to complain of the war, I did here alot of complaining while we were over there. There are many reasons people complain.
1) They had a glamourised idea of what war really is and when you get over there it is totally not what you would expect.
2) Most people think they are ready to be away from loved ones for 6 months to a year+ but when they get over their they get homesick.
3) Most people are not ready to handle the stresses of war

I'm in the Navy and I have some in site in this. When you join a military branch whether it's the Marines or the Army you know that the ultimate mission of that branch is to protect and serve the United States in a time of war. But you also think that will not happen while you are in. When you have to go to war, you might complain when you see your buddies getting killed fighting a pointless battle or you might have family commitments going on at home that to you are more important. Our job is to protect our nation, but we are people and we do have other issues going on in our lives that to us might be more important. So what if we want to complain for one minute or so we are the ones putting our lives on the line and the rest of our future on hold for however long. And we go and get the job done keeping America safe. I did participate in supporting this war and it was not fun, give my fellow brothers and sisters some slack!

Let us not forget the difference between complaining and not fulfilling one's duty and obligation. Yes soldiers complain and whine and ***** at everything. Just like we all complain about what bothers us. Just because a military person complains, it does not make him or her a deserter, AWOL or even a traitor.
Everday common people complain about everything. You and I get into a car of our own free will, and yet we complain when we hit gridlock traffic. Complaining is human nature. The stress of combat takes it toll along with the separation from loved ones causes soldiers to ***** and whine, but they still fight.
Members of the military still suit up, grab their weapons and perform their missions. They all know that they signed up, and when the $hit hits the fan, the complaining ceases and they follow their training and orders.
People have different reasons for joining the military, and for many it was a choice between a tough life and a tougher life.
Yes they complain, but they still do their duty.

That's pretty insensitive, sir.
Maybe a few react that way. If someone did in fact join and weren't expecting to fight in a war, they're either stupid or were lied to by dishonest recruiters.

Of course they are going to complain, its in our nature to complain,we complain about going to the grocery store or to school, look they put their lives in danger everyday of there lives i think that entitles them to complain some no matter if they knew what they was getting them selves in or not.

quite a blanket statement there don't ya think? I happen to know units who were actually given the option to sign up for deployment or not. The majority of them volunteers to go on their own. So your question is flawed.
