My mother was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer, Stage 3c. She underwent a hysterectomy, then radiation and chemo, then 3 different research medications. After the first round of radiation and chemo, it was found that her cancer had spread, and it was referred to Metastatic Adenocarcinoma at that time.

I learned from internet research as well as several doctors I knew/know, the "Adeno" portion of the word has to do with the lymph system (i.e. lymph nodes), and having Adenocarcinoma basically means that the cancer is in the lymph system. Metastatic basically means "having spread". Since the lymph system is a sort of "mode of travel" for fluid in our system, cancer in the lymph system is "traveling" through the body. This was the case for my mother, at least.

As someone else mentioned, the term "carcinoma" is another word for cancer. "Adeno" is the lymph system (this is what we were told by doctors and info on the net). Thus, cancer in the lymph system. The cancer itself, however, remains whatever it was to begin with... i.e. my mother had uterine cancer. Although it spread through the lymph system, it was still uterine cancer because that was the origin. She eventually had a tumor on her sacrum, but it was referred to as uterine cancer because that was the cellular make-up of the tumor.

Yes, Stage 3+4 is a danger to life if it is malignant. There is always a chance of survival, but it depends on what type of cancer, how far it has spread, and how well the person's body responds to treatment. There have been those that seemed to have no hope that beat it, and those that seemed to have the best chance that didn't. Either way, NEVER give up hope. Don't take NO for an answer, and be open-minded and willing to try anything... you never know what will work.

Best of luck.

Of course, adenocarcinoma is a form of malignancy (cancer ) . The cancer which occurs from the glandular tissue (glands) is called as adenocarcinoma. Diagnosis is made by doing the biopsy of the growth, microscopic observation and using special stains.
It can occur anywhere in the body where glandular tissue is available. (eg; Gastro intestinal tract)
Usually any malignancy in the grade 3-4 is something to be bothered about.Maybe your oncologist would be the best person who can answer this question, as it depends on many factors like response after treatment, stage of diagnosis, area of the malignancy ,etc..

All the best ....

Dear Bobbee

In answer to your medical question, all Carcinoma's, whether
[ Benign ] or [ Malignant ] are Cancer's.

Whether the type of cancer is a danger to life, very much depends upon whether the cancer is [ Benign ] or [ Malignant ].

If the Cancer is [ Benign ] then there is no danger to life.

If the Cancer is [ Malignant ] then this is a Cancer which terminates human life and which is irreversible in being treated, or cured.

I therefore trust that this answer's your medical question.
