Was the baby hurt dear ? I hope not ... now you didn't say if the dog is a male or female or the age of the dog .. but I am going to assume it is a female and if I am right she may have been trying to mother the new pup( baby ) in the pack ...( Mother dogs like to move their babies )
With very careful instruction you can let her know that its your job not hers to mother the baby.
there might even be a bit if jealousy there also that you need to deal with if the dog had you first well then your hers if you know what I mean ... It can be worked out IF your willing to put forth the effort with the dog being a protector for both you and your child ..

If your not willing to place extra training then find a good home for the dog ...

No one knows any of the circumstances so I don't know what kind of answer you expect. What kind of dog do you have? Has it ever shown aggression towards the baby before? What happened when it bit the baby? Dogs do not recognize babies as people - they look different, move different and smell different - they have to be taught to accept babies as part of the family.

You need some help with this dog and if you can't get it, take the dog to a shelter. You can't leave a dog in the house that might bite your baby!

If u have a six month old baby, you shouldn't even be letting the dog out of a cage. Some dogs are dangerous and your child might get hurt. You should've kept it in a kennel or something to prevent such problems from happening again. it's not the dog's fault as you know, dogs have the habit of biting people every now and then. i wouldn't consider you an animal abuser because you shud've kept in the kennel or smth. but please, no hitting of animals involved?

I'm sorry to hear that your dog bit your baby but,
did your baby do something to the dog?
like try to bite the dog, pull it's hair , tail or hit it???? Did someone else do something to the dog--misplaced aggression???

No matter how tame your pets are, children and animals should always be closely watched, both are unpredictable.

Maybe you should think about finding a new home for your dog.

Animals are very intimadated by young children. They should be closely supervised when together. Actually, you shouldn't let them near each other until the child is old enough to know how to pet an animal and know ow not to hurt it. I hope your baby is ok.

I had a very bad experience with this years ago. I had my neighbor's baby crawl upon my older dog. I kept telling her to keep the baby away from him cause he was old and was crippled. She woulnd't listen to me and I even had to get the child myself several times. Well, finally he crawled upon him and he growled at the child. He didn't bit him he just growled and she got up and kicked him as hard as she could.

Well, I was irate to say the least and I told her to stay at home. Everyone took her side for it and I didn't think that was right or fair. Some people actually suggested shooting my dog. I told them to go ahead and try if they thought they could get passed me. Just try to keep them seperate.

You need to consult a vet to rule out any medical condition that made your dog bite if it normally wouldn't do that. A behaviourist would be helpful to have the dog assessed to make sure it's not a serious threat and whether training may help. Be patient with the dog and don't leave it around the baby unless you can be there to supervise and even then, be cautious.

if the dog is a threat to your baby, i'm sorry, the baby should win. but, if you want to keep the dog, i would pound it's guts out if it decides to bite your baby again. but, Turtle is right. dogs are intimidated by younger kids. it probably would be a good idea to keep them seperate until your baby is old enough to be nice to the dog without hurting him. but, if it's dangerous, i don't think there should be any consideration whether or not to keep the dog.
when i was a baby, the family dog growled at me for touching his bone [understandable but not acceptable]. my dad spanked him so hard that the dog and i never ever had any differences again and were best buds. it just needed to be understood that in the hierchy of the house, baby wins over dog.

I'm not sure what your question is, but you should NEVER leave a child and a dog alone together. And if the animal bit your child you should find a new home for the dog.

Maybe you should do a better job of supervising your kid. :) You should sell the dog to a better owner. Don't do something like killing it. It's not like it killed your baby. I got bit in the nose/mouth when I was young and still have the scar. Wanna know what happened to the dog? Nothing. I was in her pen~territory.
