Doesn't orthodox just mean following the rules of a religion to the letter? Isn't that like asking which fruit tastes most like itself?

I think Islam....we aren't allowed to change our religion, We aren't allowed to pick and chose what we like from our religion and leave what we don't like.
We realise that generally speaking the things we dislike the most for us are usually the best for us, and what we like tends to hurt us.
Although there are many sects, which I realise. I am speaking specifically about the Quran and the Traditions or way of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH). This is the most orthodox of all.

Billybob, That simply isn't true...Islam is based on the belief of 1 God. I agree, however that the crecent moon is an innovation and isn't a simble of Islam. There are no Symbols in Islam. The Crescent moon comes from when the Turk's reverted to the religion and added this. It is definately not Islamic.
Peace

I assume by your question, you are asking which faith adheres most consistently to that which was first practiced.

The Catholic faith is the original Christian faith, and the most complete faith on the face of the earth. We have the Bible. We have God the Father. We have Jesus Christ. We have the Holy Spirit. We have valid sacraments that truly dispense grace. We have the Mass and Holy Communion. We have the sacred traditions of the apostles. We have Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the communion of all the saints. We have an earthly leader, the pope, who along with our bishops, wields the God given authority to settle disputes between various members of the worlwide church. We have a sacrificial priesthood. We have our own country, the Vatican. We have a complete body of both dedicated religious scholarship and divine revelation that goes back 2,000 years, all the way back to Jesus Christ himself, and then spans the old testament, all the way back to creation. We also have the great commission, and the irrevocable promises of Christ.

Mat 28:18 And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Mat 28:19 Going therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

Except for some minor cultural adjustments and "economies of scale" the Catholic church believes, practices, and teaches today, exactly what it did in the times of the original twelve apostles.

And none of this happened by chance.

I have to agree with someone else who said Amish. I think there was a documentary about them that they live without electricity and some other things. Basically it's like living in the olden times. I'm not sure if you would necessarily call it orthodox. It depends on your own thinking.
Some people think Islam is orthodox. I think it's simple without complicating your life. It's more like a guide for life.

Orthodox in how much people will allow themselves to be deceived? Most of the 'religions' are nothing more than deceiving rituals and beliefs of man. Take islam, for example. It's history stems from tribal sun and moon worship. Hence the crescent moon symbol on their phallic minnaret towers. The word Allah is not God's name. His name is Yahweh. Allah is a name for the moon God's, placed in the balck stone of Mecca.
So man can be very orthodox in their worship of something, even if it is a false religion and lie. It is not about orthodox religion, but true relationship with our heavenly father. Take 'orthodox' out!

If you are searching for the deepest truth, its found in the christian bible! Start in John and read to the end of the book! And pay attention to what Jesus says about the kingdom. It is this Kingdom that holds all the answers to wisdom and knowledge! Its only about 150 pages, but it tells of the Resurrection power of Christ and how to obtain it by his HOLY SPIRIT! Hurry! its all there! The mysteries to the universe! All others are a distraction from the holy Ghost power!

Deliniating the genuineness of orthodoxies is about as useful as trying to determine which language spoken today was the original human language. The origins no longer exist, and today we have myriads of ideas, roughly similar, with different packaging.

I'm in no position to even guess at a remotely 'correct' answer. I could only recommend seeing it as "Which religion will enhance my own spirituality in repect to my talents, aptitudes and goals?"

Did you possibly mean oldest? Because a religion can't be orthodox only it's members or denominations can.

You may find Animism interesting...it's considered by many to be the oldest/most primitive form of religion.
