You have to prepare, pace yourself, and do post-drinking salvage. First, be certain you ate a good meal before going out. Then preload with water one glass water for every drink think will have. e.g., if you expect to drink 6 drinks, then drink 6 glasses water before going out. (I don't recommend 6 drinks, but since you got drunk that's probably what happened). Then, have a glass of water for every drink you do have, alternate. Getting the bartender to put 'bitters' in club soda looks just like a beer & fools most everyone. Avoid drinks with sugar, including tonic water, they make the drunk & the hangover worse. Also, dump out half of whatever drink you're holding every time you go to the washroom, no one will be the wiser. Going out for pancakes afterwards helps too. When you get home, drink water the same amount of glasses you did drink. Also take 2 aspirin (unless allergic of course) and 2 vitamen pills. Sleep propped up some. Good luck.
