hi, the isle of man has it,s own goverment and is not ruled by british goverment, in fact to this day you can still be flogged ( cat of nine tales) on the isle of man for various offences,
great britain consists of england, scotland & wales all situated on one island, southern ireland & northern ireland make up another island which lies some 12 miles of mainland britain,
southern ireland also has it,s own goverment and if you travel from the mainland england, scotland, wales you need a passport to enter,
i hope this as been some help.

The Isle of Man is internally self-governing but depends on the UK government for foreign affairs and defense. It is a member of the British Commonwealth.

The island is the island of Ireland. It's all the name it needs.
