A "chip" is an integrated circuit used in the electronic industry.
Nanotechnology is an industry by itself, where engineers and scientists work on "devices" extremely small (the scale of a NANOmeter). They have devised electrical motors, sensors, actuators the size of a few nanometers.
Nanotechnology also leads to the fabrication of very special molecules, such as "carbon fibre nanotubes". At this stage, Nanotechnology has produced many devices, and many of them have not yet a defined usage (we could say we have found answers to questions we have not yet asked, like the discovery of the laser: we knew what it was, we made them, but we did not know what to do with it!!!)
