well you are in a bad situation.. there must a reason for which u want to shed all the relation with your love.... if there is someone whose advice u r following then i must tell you that this is ur life and the all the steps are taken by u, it is u who is responsible for all the decision that u might take... don't listen to anyone it is ur live do not waste it. live ur life to the fullest and enjoy it....
if at all u want to do it let me say u r doing it for ur benefit just understand in what situation he will be after u have left so i want u to discuss the matter with him and the thing which is bothering you or the reason for which u are leaving him.
it will be a very hard step but u have to take up the initiative.
i hope he will be able to understand ur feelings and rest the decision is all urs. ur life ur way........

Be up front and honest, it's what you both deserve. I know I amke it sound easy, it's not...but its what you should do. Talk to him and be honest.
If you still love him perhaps you just need some space, love lost is lost.
