well, MiniDV means Mini Digital Video which is a predesessor of 8mm video cameras.. in the market people usually buy now the mini dv because it is light and compact and easy to transfer video to computers because of its digital output connection thru firewire in the computer.
The CCD - Definition: In essence, this is the electronic version of film for a digital camera. Standing for Charged Coupled Device, this refers to the chip used to record image information. Light hits the CCD when a photo is taken, and then the analog CCD converts the information to digital. This is one of the two main recording devices used in digital cameras
In simple terms you get more clear videos using CCD camera.

DV is Digital Video. any device having this means it is digital in format and don't get confused - it's only a matter of naming their device, as long as it says DV or digital, you can't go wrong.
The CCD is a device/lens that 'capture' images according to its capable resolution or clarity.
So having 3ccds will give you 3times better image capture. But being an amateur we are, a 1Mpix ccd lens is more than good enough at cost we can easily afford - get it? sure!

so buy that 1Mpix camcorder now and start shooting!

Marcus is sweet... There are greater options... and we will follow intense definition cams purely which would be offered new. Sony HDR-HC9 (Marcus mentioned) Canon HV40 Sony HVR-HD1000 Sony HDR-FX7 Sony HVR-A1 Sony HDR-FX1000 Canon XHA1 Sony HVR-Z5 Canon XLH sequence The Panasonic AG-HVX200 and JVC GY-HM100 are flash memory, yet they have a DV port, so which you would be able to import the captured video over firewire. The video they capture is low-compression (no longer anemic AVCHD like another flash memory camcorders, extremely the buyer ones). you probably did no longer let us know which Mac or which version OSX or what video editor you're making plans to apply. The MacBook Air and a few variations of MacBook have not got a firewire port and no thank you to characteristic one - All different Macs made interior the final 10 years or so have a firewire port. iMovieHD '06 can do HDV format video, yet you are able to could positioned in the Apple Intermediate Code (AIC) manually - you will could do a custom setting up of the AIC applying the OSX gadget discs. AIC is a QuickTime element. in case you Mac is greater moderen, you probable won't could positioned in the AIC manually.

DV means digital video. CCD (charge couple device) is the image processor while DV is the format. I think this link will be useful. Goodluck.
