The burden is far worse them merely limiting your actions. Religion stops your ability to see clearly, to analyze the world around you and to make sound decisions based on reality and not myths and dogma.

You are so right!

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary"
-Steve Jobs

There are so many things you need to be worried.
1. You will have to worry to make decision one day that against your faith that you want to have.
for example:
You became sick and there is medicine can possible cure your illness but your religion said no to you because it is embryonic stem cell research.
or you'd like to have abortion one day due to becoming a victim of rape.
2. You will worry your children one day become gay or lesbian.
3. You will worry about losing faith.
4. You will be less independent once you accepted the dogma of your religion.
5. Your freedom will be sacrificed.
6. You will be labeled as religious people.
7. You have to accept/follow/unquestion in your religous dogma.

I believe those are the fractions of the burden.

Why on earth would religion be a burden, for whatever reason? If you feel it limits you from doing things (which you don't specify) the chances are you shouldn't be doing those things precisely because of your religion. Or are you one of those who reckons you can do what you like, and religion will be a safety net later in life when you so desperately need it? Hah! Doesn't work that way. God Bless!

Sometimes it may seem like it is a burden. But if you really have faith on this religion where you belong then following it's laws should make you feel happy. Because if you are convinced that you belong in the true Church then following the rules mean your making you God happy since you have been obedient. Just like kids are taught Santa Claus will only give gifts to good, OBEDIENT and behaved children, same analogy applies here.

I would say no. Religion itself is powerless. Its the person that makes the choice to do or not do things. Even though religion does have its limitations, they are only as effective as a human being allows them to be.

In my opinion anyone who unflinchingly conforms to religious doctrine is missing the point. Take Christianity for example. Its great not to sin, but if you don't understand why you aren't sinning you are missing the point. People like this will find something to follow blindly no matter what.

I'm going to be a dissenting person in the argument about whether it limits you.

On the contrary, it frees me up. Because I have the ability to count on God for wisdom and guidance, and a large group of friends who pray for me and help me.

Also, I have studied and decided that Christianity was the best choice. I don't agree with the other religions because they have never made sense to me, but Christianity does make sense.

When you start to understand the principles laid out in the New Testament, you then understand why this religion is worth following.
It teaches how to get along with people
It teaches how to look beyond the surface and see them with compassion
It teaches how to value wisdom and listening instead of using the dangerous weapon (the tongue)
It teaches me about financial management of my money
It teaches me to value and respect others

Through these and other teachings I have learned more freedoms. Before I clouded everything by narrow judgmentalism. But now I realize, just how many freedoms I have.

I'm not tied down by the religious rules because Christ was not either.

No, I think that is a lieof the devil to keep you in his bondage. Religion does not limit us from doing things. God doesn't even limit us from doing things. We are free to do what we want. We will have earthly and heavenly consequences for those choices, but if you turn your life over to Jesus and get a sense for what He truly is to you, then you desire to live for Him....His Spirit the Holy Spirit will let you know what is right/what is wrong. And you do those things because you love God and you actually find more freedom in that than in being a slave to the evils and guilt of the world!!!

My faith dosnt limit me from doing anything. I have the same freedom of choice as anyone else. On the other hand.. once I began to see the blessings of God in my life and realized that is what they actually were. I began to realize that I dont need to do many of the things I used to. Its not that I cant do them I can do anything I choose to do..... its that I choose not to. Look at it this way..... If you love someone your not going to do things that you know are displeasing to them. You would not intentionally cause pain to someone you truly love. Well.... I love the Lord and I have no desire to do things in my life that displease him. I found shortly after coming to have a realationship with Christ.... I dont need booze to give me courage..... i dont need a drug to escape life I can enjoy it..... i dont need multiple women in my life to make me feel like a man.... I can be happy and content with the woman who loves me enough to share my name and my children. Its not that I cant do things..... I dont need to do those things.
If you will truly read and study Gods word.... you will find there are a lot more "DO's" than there are "Dont's" and if you do the DO's you wont have time to do the Dont's.
God bless you and have a wonderful day :)

If a nurse in the hospital made a mistake...... there ends religion. No children is born with a religion. Its the most worst thing that parents can implement in their life.

Religion is most certainly a burden, it's all work and no reward.
