I have been having sleeping problems for about 6 months. It wasnt too bad at first now Im lucky if I sleep more than an hour or 2 a night sometimes not at all.I tried counting sheep,I have had the medication,(and stayed up all night wondering when it was going to work!),I tried yoga and meditation, and a shrink who took $200 an hour to tell me I have an underlying problem!Duh!!! I know that!.Im at my wits end,has anyone tried or know anyone who has tried hypnosis? It sounds alittle weird to me and Im not sure I believe in it,any help or advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

I hear you. Don't stress if you feel you are not getting enough sleep. It will just make matters worse. Know you will sleep eventually. Try these links, they may help.

In the morning:
First, soak your face cloth in hot steamy water. Like, really really hot! But not too hot. Then wash your face. Make sure your cheeks turn red or a nice shade of pink. Then squeeze out all the hot water and soak it in cold water. Then wash your face, again. I do this everyday. Do your usual morning stuff. And stretch! Stretch until you're sure you can flex really easily. I stretch about 3 minutes. This should keep you awake if you are tired from lack of sleep.
At night:
Take a bath. Just a nice, hot bath. Maybe about 1 am at the beginning, then gradually make it earlier. Then read your favorite book, eat fruit or chocolate (if you want) and then hit off to the bed and sleep. And make sure you punch your pillow so its not stiff. Don't listen to any music. Instrumental will do fine. Add some bath scent oil pills if you want into the tub, to be more relaxing. I like the rosemary smell.
Good luck!
Since your really do lack sleep, go see a hypnosis person if you're desperate.

It's 3:30 and you're still on the pc, straining your eyes (admit it!) to see everything on the screen.
If you really want to drift to noddyland, you have to WIND DOWN! And, that means, do something that is boring enough to make you want to sleep. Buy a book on cars (never understood why men love it sooooo much!) or something about history and read it every night. Being before the computer will not make you fall asleep since you seem to be fairly computer savvy.
You could also have a glass of milk with a pinch of saffron (available at Indian stores) added to it. According to studies, milk induces sleep. I guess, you already know that you have to avoid caffeine at least 6 hours before bedtime.
And relax, 'cos there are many others like you out there, too.
Good Night!....& Sweet Dreams!

I recommend taking Valerian root. It has a solid history of helping people sleep better, and helping promote healthy sleep patterns. You must be in the Eastern Standard Time Zone because it is the same time here!

If I can't sleep I put in a movie that I ahve seen like 100 times and usually works pretty easy. If you can watch it in bed or while laying down somwhere comfy. If it doesm't work the first night just keep it up , it will bore you into sleep. Just pick a movie you like. Works everytime for me.

I'm right with you.
I've been an insomniac for 15 years.
Havn't tried hypnosis, but it sounds like a good idea.
