I just had 6 teeth removed today. (4 wisdom + 2 back teeth) It was such a breeze was in and out in no time... bled for a little while, then i took the gauze out and was fine... but i'm such a nicotine addict I waited about 6 hours after surgery and smoked. not full fledged cheeks caving in, but more like just takin baby puffs. but then i got worse, i smoked probably 3 more times this evening in the 'baby puffs' manner.... They say not to smoke, but they're aren't a hopeless addict like I am! Now I'm really worried about dry socket.... And I've been drinkin a lot of water because i feel really dehydrated, I hope that doesn't wash the clots right on out... Oh please help someone!

OOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I had dry socket once, you do not want that. But I got it when a piece of food got stuck and then dislodged. Go figure. They told me not to smoke but they didn't say anything about not eating. But I have smoke after extractions, is the "sucking" that is the culprit as it risks dislodging the clot. so draw in slowly, I also put a piece of gauze over the extraction site, just to protect it even more. Hey, I'm addicted too!!!

I smoked lightly after I had mine done. Never had a problem. Seem like i only had 2 at a time done....you've got a lot more chances of getting a dry socket with 6! Smokers are going to smoke. It doesn't make much difference what the doc says. Take it easy with them and do something to get your mind off them. like sleep! You can't smoke in your sleep.

If you cant do the patch or it doesn't work for you, lightly gargle and rinse with water immediately after smoking. I had 1 wisdom tooth removed last year and smoked, no rinsing, and it's still a little painful to eat.

I smoked right after having 2 wisdom teeth pulled. I just made sure I rinsed with peroxide afterwards to clear out anything that could cause infection.

not everyone gets dry sockets, but smoking, drinking from a straw ect.. will increase the risk. believe me you don't want to chance it that cig is not that good. dry sockets hurt something' horrible pounding radiating pain from your jaw to the ear, then you have to go back to doc and get them packed with cotton soaked in euginal which tastes like clove oil.

Smoking will only nicotine-coat the edges of teeth exposed, and nothing to the pit. So dont bother. And,try to come out of your adiction. Will power is the only solution to kicking the habit.
Rewmember that smoking causes cancer, and this disease kills.
Do give a serious thought to this.

It increases the chance. Try the "patch" for a few days, but don't smoke onn top of it!
