To deodorize a carpet, sprinkle baking soda over it, wait 30 minutes, then vacuum. For strong odors, rinse the area with a 20-80 solution of vinegar and water. When possible, clean spills immediately, blotting them with a clean white cloth instead of scrubbing them. The longer a stain sits, the harder it is to remove.

Do NOT ever use anything containing AMMONIA, cats urine contains ammonia, it will only encourage them to pee there more, they will think another cat has peed there.

Home Remedy Recipe Urine Smell and Stain Remover

Ingredients

Baking Soda
White Vinegar
Dishwashing Detergent
Hydrogen Peroxide

Directions:

1. If the carpet is newly soiled, first absorb as much of the urine as possible using paper towels or an old towel. Place towels over the dog urine patch and tread on them so as to absorb as much wetness as possible. Repeat with dry towels until no more moisture can be absorbed.

If the urine has dried and you are not sure where the soiled area is you can use a black light (pictured above) to detect it. In a darkened room the black light will pick up urine and other stains. Hand held black lights can be purchased for between $15 to $25

2. Next, wet the area with a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Make sure it penetrates the fibres deep down. Allow it to dry. A fan can be used to assist drying. The acidity of the vinegar will neutralize the ammonia in the urine. It will NOT remove all the urine smell.

3.When it's dry, apply baking soda over the affected area and drizzle it with hydrogen peroxide mixed with a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent. Work it in with your a scrubbing brush or fingers to dissolve the baking soda and work it down into the carpet. Allow it to dry. Then vacuum.

You can also use an enzyme based laundry detergent, the enzymes break down the proteins and fats that hold the smell. rinse thoroughly after with water and vinegar.

Works on dog stains too.

The best thing I've ever used is called "nature's miracle". it's natural, has a nice citrusy scent and is pretty inexpensive. A lot of people swear by it and won't use anything else. It's an enzyme and I buy it at petco. it removes urine odors, vomit and stains that other products fail to get out. Comes with a money back guarantee so if you're not satisfied, you won't lose anything. I've been using it for years and it works so well. My house smells great & most people don't even know i have a cat, unless they see her. They have a formula just for cats and comes in several different sizes, to suit your needs. I buy the big 128 ouncer and it lasts me a long time. Keep in mind though, that if your carpet is totally wrecked by years of pet damage - you might need to replace it. good luck!

I would steam clean the carpet first (seeing there's old stains) and then use the pet deodorizer you get from the pet shop or your vet. "Store bought" deodorizers (Febreeze, Oust, powdered carpet cleaners, etc) WON'T remove ALL of the odor, and the cats WILL pee there again!! If it's an incontinence problem, take them to the vet. If it's a problem with the older and younger cats getting along, keep them separated until they get used to each other.

There are special enzymatic sprays you can buy in any grocery store that are designed specifically for that.

Keep your kids room door closed, and try to keep the cats in one area, along with the food, water and litter boxes, until they adjust to their new home. Make sure there's plenty of litter boxes, and that they're kept clean, so that they're more likely to use them. Otherwise, you'll just be constantly trying to clean up after them.

Use 3 part water to 1 part baking soda, and scrub it in a circular motion with a gentle cloth. This will help deodorize the carpet and should remove the urine once you soak it up with a towel.

there is some stuff you can get at Petsmart or Petco that can help nuetralize the smell, and you might have to get something becuz the urine is strong enough it leaves enzymes where they'll come back in pee in the same spot if you don't treat it now

Clean up time

You will also have to clean the areas thouroughly to remove all presence of scent that your cat may well pick up on and be induced by it to mark yet again. You could try try these methods but do a test where it's not seen first.

Baking Soda. Dissolve 4 tablespoons baking soda in 1 quart warm water for a general cleaner. Or use baking soda on a damp sponge.
Baking soda will clean and deodorise
If stain or odour persists, try this method. Add 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide to 1 tbsp. of baking soda. Add 1/2 tsp. of dish soap and stir well. Apply solution to the stained area with a sponge. Let dry and vacuum

Clean fresh pet urine from the carpet?
First, blot up what you can with paper towels. Mix one teaspoon mild dish-washing detergent in one cup warm water, dip a clean towel in the liquid and, working from outside in, dab at stain. Do not overwet. Rinse with fresh water and blot dry. Next, add on-third cup white vinegar with two-thirds cup water and dab on stain. Rinse with water; ;blot until dry. Once area is totally dry (after at least 24 hours), sprinkle entire carpet with baking soda or rug deodoriser. Vacuum after a few hours
Baking Soda

Carpet deodorizer - sprinkle on carpet, and leave overnight, then vacuum it up in the morning. Offending odors will be gone.

Dump onto acid spills/stains such as vomit (after you've picked up any solid matter). The baking soda will 'wick' the liquid up out of the carpet as well as neutralize the acid. Pick up the wet 'clumps' before vacuuming,

Cats had a little accident on the carpet. Getting rid of the urine smell , mix in Lemon Essential Oil with the Baking Soda.

Pet Stains - when an animal vomits, urinates or has diarhhea on carpet, sprinkle baking soda heavily, then wearing rubber gloves, rub into area until baking soda coagulates. Let dwell at least five minutes. Vacuum with your regular vacuum cleaner. Clean or dispose of bag. Pour straight white vinegar over area. When vinegar foams, blot with sponge. Residue will evaporate leaving no odor or stain. If unable to immediately treat with vinegar, leave baking soda on area until ready.

Vinegar
As a carpet spot and stain remover - take a trigger spray bottle and fill with one part white vinegar to seven parts water. Take a second spray bottle and fill with one part white, non sudsy amonnia and seven parts water. Saturate stain with vinegar solution. Let dwell for a few minutes and blot thoroughly with a clean, white cloth. Then go over the area with the ammonia solution, let dwell and blot again. Repeat until the stain is gone. Also works for pet stains to help remove the odors.

Pouring a little baking soda into my cat's litter box helps keep the odors out longer.

Do NOT use ammonia based cleaners, as a by-product in cat urine is ammonia and they will smell it and think the spot is acceptable to use for elimination

If hormones are calmed down a bit then there is less chance of him wanting to do the male macho spray. You cannot do the short way and get the amytriptiline ,valium, buspar, ovarid, ovaban ect from the vet without cleaning everything as the aroma will still be there.

Please remember a cat urinating in places other than the correct place can mean either a behavior problem or a medical problem dependant on the way it is done so a vet check must be first and foremost.

Urinating does not involve spraying vertical surfaces and is normally done from a squat position.

Cats can and will urinate in unusual places when they are unwell in instances such as a urinary problem, a kidney problem, urethric problem and so on, also to reassert their claim to territory,it can arise from psychological stress. Some cats however have purely behavioral motivations without illness and you will only be able to judge this by getting your vet to examine and test the cat for medical issues first.

cheers :)
