they are adapted to flight, feather covered wings, hollow bones to cut down on weight, and no heavy jaw or teeth, just a lightweight beak, specialized respiratory and circulatory system to allow for lots of energy needed for flight.

Although many birds fly as a form of transportation and to get to safety. There are birds that can't fly such as Penguins, Ostriches and Chickens for example. But they make up for it by being fast runners, or swimmers.

Beacuse they have wings... if they wont fly, what are wings for... same thing goes with why do fish swim or why do people talk... we have to develop use for our body parts that would help us (animals) adapt to our environment...
