People like to piggyback off their parent's beliefs and never cut the cord long enough to actually figure out what they believe in.

Why is almost every action you do derived from your parents??

Conditioning, training, and a little brainwashing.

think about it; youre parents are (by FAR) your largest educational and behavioral influence for at least the first 5-6 years of your life and stay predominantly influencing you for the next 10 years; at least.

You would believe anything if you are told it long enough--and especially if you were consistently rewarded for compliance!

(as a matter of clarification; religion is not 'hereditary' per se--it is not biological, it is behavioral)

It's not hereditary. It's not in our genes. It's a learned behavior. Whatever your family's beliefs were, they will most likely push those onto you until you grow old enough to have your own mind and opinions.

It isn't really hereditary as it isn't in our genes. But I know what you mean so I'll give a proper answer: because parents force it on their children.

Religion is hereditary. Religion is attributed to our environment.

It isn't. It is social. Humans are social animals. It is well known that little children crave the acceptance and approval of their parents. As teens we crave the acceptance of our peers...hence the forays into shocking behavior. Then as adults with children of our own (which is frickin' scary) we run as fast as we can back to what is safe, known and has a built in support group.

Sad, sad generational cycles.

Because many people are not sincerely seeking God.

I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).

Cordially,
John
