I know the standard response to an expression of gratitude is "You're welcome," but this response seems a bit formal for everyday interactions.

On the other hand, saying "No problem" seems a bit too casual.

Then there's "My pleasure," but saying this isn't always appropriate, because the thing you're doing to warrant a "Thank you" isn't always pleasurable.

What are some other responses that you use when you receive a "Thank you"?

Maybe you're overthinking this a little. I think "you're welcome" is perfect. Not too formal at all. Or you could say something like, "you're welcome, hun." That's what I always say to people when they say thankyou, and adding a sweet nickname will personalize it enough so it won't be too formal.

"oh--that is fine."

" not a big deal"

"glad to do it"

"well I am so glad it helped you" or add-b/c "you have done a lot for me too."

It just depends on the situation and the age and level of closeness to the person. The answer, " You are Welcome," is given sometimes in mainly formal, but also in some informal settings. It just depends on the atmosphere and mood of the person. Plus a smile is always a must.

Da' Nada. (It was nothing; which is really a gracious response especially if what I did was really helpful to a person ) Although I'm not Hispanic.
You are welcome isn't really formal. It is a polite and humble enough response.

Ten years of customer service has bred my slightly condescending "you're welcome" right out. And most of the time "it was no problem" is actually a flat-out lie. I use the British Isles style (according to my etiquette book) second "thank you". Like this:

Me: "Thank you for your help"
You: "Oh, thank you"

You can use emphasis "thank YOU" or say it normally. It works most of the time. Every now and then someone will get confused and follow my second "thank you" with a "you're welcome". I consider it an amusing bonus.

Thank you.

Well best thing would be alongwith saying "You are welcome" You body language should express the full enery and your eyes should show right amount of happiness and interest that you have got by helpiing him/her.

I have a personal request. This is for everyone in the world (kidding but not really). The correct response is a smile and a simple "you're welcome". I beg everyone, please stop with the "no problem"!!!!!

"It was nothing." Was it really nothing? No. But in being humble about what you did that elicited a "thank you," you are showing character. More formal than "no problem," but not a blatant lie like "my pleasure."
