Anti depressants do not work for anxiety!!!! I know this because I have been suffering with it for about 13 years, don't try to self medicate yourself like most people do.I take 10 mg Klonopin 3 times a day.It keeps me calm and I am able to go out without fear.It isn't as habit forming as valliume, but it works just as good.Find you a doctor that will give Klonopin to you.I would tell the doctor you have taken it before and it helped you very well.It can make you sleepy so be carefull.People with anxiaty have a tendancy to take more to feel better,it's not safe!I was on ativan for awhile too,and it sucked!! Doctors push the anti depressants on people so they don't have to get people started on possibly addictive drugs, and for some people they work, they never worked for me.I was on the highest dose of effexor a few years ago and tried to commit suicide which can be a side effect of a lot of anti depressants!!!!Xanax is not a good choice either. It does relieve anxiaty, but makes you an intollerable person to be arround and can cause you to lose friends and is very addictive so doctors don't want to give it to you for a long period of time.Councilng helped me too.I hope this was enough info for you.Anxiaty sucks and is hard for people who don't have it to understand which can be frustrating to the people who have it.My husband just can't seem to get why I can't go into the store sometimes, and he gets mad at me and thinks I should get a hold of myself and just stop it...ooohhh if it was only that simple just to stop it!!!

You seem like you have a severe case of anxiety. If anxiety reaches the point where it is painful and causes you to not function in public and antidepressants are not helping, you must see a psychiatrist. If you are seeing one, then you might want to change doctors.
Nobody on here knows you well enough to really tell you what medications to take, or what therapies to subscribe to. We can steer you in the right direction and you need to be willing to not be afraid to ask for help.
First of all, I don't understand why your doctor would remove Ativan if it was working. There are a number of medications that can be helpful, but the need to understand yourself and develop more self confidence is essential.
By seeing a psychiatrist and by getting the best and most professional advice you can, you will be doing yourself a great service. Life is short. Why would you want to spend it being nervous and not enjoying all that is out there to enjoy?
Anxiety and depression are illnesses like any others and can be controlled or cured by experts. Don't' rely on laymen to cure you. Get professional help.

I can tell you what NOT to do. Do Not avoid the anxiety. I did and do and now I'm Agoraphobic. I dont leave my house, I havent in over 8 years and Im sick of this. I wish I had worked through my anxieties. I look at them now as something a whole lot easier to deal with then my current situation. Just place yourself in a state of "I am not trapped here". Know you can leave at any given time whereever you are when it happens. Good luck and take care.

Try getting and reading the self help book called Complete Self-Help for Your Nerves by Dr. Claire Weekes it is a great book that helped me overcome severe panic attacks that were ruling my life and I was thinking of checking out before I borrowed that book from a friend. Lots of luck

try Tony Robbins CD's. My friend who grew stage fright out of nowhere and became really full of anxiety all the time and always thought he was going to faint. He listened to many of his CD's and is now a very famous Comic, and doesn't have any problems. In fact, i've never seen him this positive or outgoing before.

You should probably see a therapist soon. If you have to, check yourself into a mental health facility. Speaking from experience, you should not let this go.
Don't be afraid to ask for help, sometimes, just talking to someone can make a world of difference.

I have it too, best bet is calming excersizes and realize that it is just a fear you must overcome. It stems from a lack of self confidence and a fear of not being "good enough". So find something that your good at and do it. The trick is to build up your self confidence so that you do not have these feelings and do not return to alcoholism to stifle them.

Try some alternative therapy and relaxation things if you haven't yet. Reiki, yoga, meditation. These things really work for some people.
