Could it be possible that you simply have not learned the correct way to use prayer? No negative implication, just a thought. When you pray, you are basically talking to god, right? Have you taken the time to listen? Meditation is the active opposite of praying. When you pray, you talk, when you meditate, you listen. God's voice is alive inside everything that exists. If you take the time and listen without prejudice, or expectation, and an openness to whatever it may tell you, god will tell you everything you ever need to know. And if you don't get an answer, perhaps the answer is to have a little faith and watch carefully to see how the situation works out and learn a little bit about yourself in the process. But to answer your question, I think just about everyone has doubted whether their prayers are being heard or not at some point in their lives. Faith means a whole lot more when you've lost it for a while and find it again. You know, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.....

If you were in a tragic situation or a family member of yours was on death bed for a serious illness, I guarantee that sometime during those events you would be praying - that is a natural thing for any human to do.

Prayer does work, I have seen the power of prayer come alive. I don't see it as a joke but as a communication opportunity with God himself. God has answered my prayers numerous times from being healed of a disease (without the doctor's help) to a being rescued from a financial situation. I love praying and would not trade it for anything in the world.

Even when I believed in God and prayed it felt like hoping for magic at most. I really never believed it, I was just raised in a country (the USA) where you just generally accept that there is a God if you are never taught different. The longer I thought about it the more the whole thing sounded like a joke to me. I wouldn't put it quite so condescending though, it takes away from the validity of the question. It makes it harder to get a straight answer, people might take it the wrong way.

Sometimes I feel that way. Well, maybe a LOT but I still find myself praying. I guess I'm just optimistic that one day I'll get an answer to at least 1 prayer.

Well, you can say that about everything. Try to prove me wrong when I say these:
1. Life... what a joke!
2. Death...what a joke!
3. Religion... what a joke!
4. Science...what a joke!

I could keep on going like this for hours, but I think that I have already made my point.

Prayer can be powerful. You don't have to pray TO anything, just formulate the need, and pour energy into the thought. If nothing else, the "prayer" will guide the subconscious and lead us to situations where parts of our "prayer" could be answered.

God wants a relationship with you. And thats what prayer is just a conversation with a good friend and thats the way He would like to be with you.

There are lots of different ways God communicates to us.We have a direct line to the Father through prayer.Jesus is at His right hand interceeding for us. I believe there are 3 answers to our prayers
1. Yes
2.Not yet, in His timing
3.I have something better in mind for you.

I dont think prayer is totally a joke. I think meditation of some sort, deep thought or whatever, is beneficial to people.
