some people say that the word mosque came from mosquito is it true,and they say its mention in quran as masjid not mosque

I am happy to inform you that it is an urban myth that the word "Mosque" comes from the Spanish word "mosca" meaning fly.
It is true that in Qur'an Mosque is written Masjid. However, using the word Mosque is not diminutive because it simply based on how the Egyptians pronounced "j". "J" is pronounced as "g" which turned Masjid into masgid and became "mesquita" in Spanish.
Saying either is fine.

I'm not a muslim, but if I were one, I would prefer the word "Masjid". Masjid takes its root from the Arab sajood, that is "prostration" equated to worship and honor of Jehovah/Allah. This is the ultimate function of the masjid, and a rather poetic rendition of that function at that.
Mosque is just a european bastardization of that. Go with the pristine form. I think it's more honest.

Mosque are Islamic and Muslim churches.It is logical to conclude that the word mosque when translated into English means church ; an Islamic place of worship. Masjid are also Muslim/ Islamic churches . Both mosque/ masjid mean the same thing . Both words are used intermittently , both meaning : Islamic / Muslim places of worship.

the correct term for a place of worship is masjid. mosque was something the people started using, esp in west . but both mean the same thing.
by the way please tell the person who gave u such wrong information that it is fun to point fingers on others until there are fingers pointed towards u.

It is true that the Spanish invented the word mosque but it comes from the spanish word for a "fly", Mosca. It was because there were as many of them as flies. The correct word is Masjid.

Mosque is European - Latin word for Masjid like 'Hindu' place of worship is called 'MANDIR' in their language but in English it is called 'temple',
As long as people understand what one means its OK to say either word.

the east African believers (Muslims) calls it maskiti. so what. what ever you call it is fine, as long as the spiritual leaders are containing the heat within its walls.
