Like on sheets....there is room for 3 initials...Do I use the First Initial of his name, then the Last Name, and then Her initial? Or what? What is the proper way to do this?

If they are married, and are sharing the same last name, the surname is represented by a large initial in the middle, with the first initial of the given names on either side of it.
That's how it used to be done.
Today, with many women keeping their own names, or hyphenating their names, I have no idea how you would encompass all that with three little initials. Hopefully, the couple you are shopping for will do the traditional thing and have the same surname, to make life easier for you!

Married Couple Monogram

Traditionally, even if it seems old fashioned and chauvanistic, the bride had all her linens embroidered with her maiden name initial, and stored in her "Hope Chest". This was done because when she started collecting all these things she probably didn't have any idea of the name of her future husband. She brought these into the wedding as a "start up the household" grubstake. Even after marriage, the woman traditionally "runs the household" so the linens should have her maiden name initial only as a monogram. However, having said all that, God only knows what people are doing nowadays. I guess you can either be traditional or do what ever suits your fancy. good question though!

If it's a monogram gift for a couple with the same last name, you only use the first initial of the last name. Hope this helps!

When monogramming things like sheets, a single letter of the last name is appropriate; Towels, do separate lettering for the wife and husband with the middle initial being the last name...for example: Susan Wilson Clark would be small "s", Large "C", small "w"....

You could do it that way but if it doesnt work out with them, the gift is useless. Hopefully that's not a huge concern, but I would say just use the initial of their last name. Just because there are 3 spots doesn't mean you have to use them. Plus, how would you decide whose initial goes first. It might be offensive if you put hers last.

I don't know if it is professional or not but I would her first initial, the his first initial and then their last name if they are married. I say put her first initial because women love being first.

You've got it right.

His first name initial on left, their last name initial in middle, her first initial on right.

Or, just one big initial for the last name. The monogrammed towels and silverware I've seen for married couples just have the last initial.

If they're married, use the first letter of their last name. If it is an unmarried couple, only put each's initials on the pillowcases.
