The Catholic church was around before what was called the reformation. The catholic church had become corrupt and a guy named Martin Luther came along and told them that they were wrong. Then there was a bunch of people that left the catholic church and became protestants. The Bible the catholics use is different than the protestant version in that there are the extra books and there are differences in the translations of the words in the catholic version.

Catholics are the original "Christians". Protestants broke away during the Reformation - Martin Luther, Calvin and all that.

All the books of the Bible were written long before there was either a Catholic or Protestant churches. The Roman Catholic church just accepts that there are more books of the Bible that are ordained by God than Protestants do.

If you're really interested, there are many websites available that cover church history. Just type "protestant reformation" into any search engine and you'll get lots of info.

Christians eventually converted the mother of the emperor, and then the emperor. He became known as the Holy Roman emperor. It started out good but later he was called the Pope and became the head of the church. The church started to stray away from the truth. But because he was Emperor and Pope, who could correct this? The church was no longer lead by elders. Pope after Pope got worse and worse. Eventually it was decided that the Pope was infallible. He was called the "Holy Father". A title which the bible says is for God alone. Eventually Martin Luther protested and this started the Protestant Reformation. These churches are still very much like the Catholic church since most of them only protested one or two matters of doctrine. Most of them are still structured different from what the bible says.
:Later a movement known as the Restoration movement started. Their goal was not to protest the Catholic church but simply to go back to the form of worship as described in the bible. They do not have a central power structure. Each congregation must make their own decisions as to doctrine and form of worship. See Churches of Christ. These should not be confused with International Church of Christ or Unified Church of Christ

I don't think the number of books is correct, but the number doesn't matter.
The difference between Christians and the Catholic church is: The Catholic church holds to it's traditions over the Bible. While Christians look to the Bible.
The Christians broke away from the C.church, it started with Martin Luther.

area of the myth that Catholics are actually not Christians is that we positioned no importance on the Bible. Myths are contradictory or have greater suitable than one sort, some say that we are forbidden to ascertain it. because of the fact the reason of many of the 20 th century suggestions in (American) Christianity are Bible based and because Catholics needless to say, by applying remark or rumor, reject them, it extremely is concluded we forget relating to the Bible. the certainty is that we examine the Bible in an exceptionally conservative way and don't locate "new issues" in it that have been omitted (or interpreted greater benignly) interior the previous. We carry that no one passage trumps something of scripture or divine revelation. many human beings don't comprehend that meat comes from animals and fruit from trees. don't be surprisedd the are unfamiliar with the historic previous of Christianity and the Bible. The literal which skill of the text textile is the inspiration for all which skill interior the Bible. areas of the Bible are fiction, delusion, and fantasy. that is not a technological understanding textbook. it extremely is inerrant with admire to concerns of religion and morals. An irresponsible information scripture is without benefit or result no count how fervent the only that holds it.

The answer is neither broke away from the other.

Christianity started at the point that Jesus began his ministry. Those who followed him and his teachings were call Christians because they followed Jesus Christ the Messiah.

Not all who followed were Israelites(jews) but most were.

In Revelation, which begins with letters to seven distinct churches, not a one of them was referred to as the Catholics. SO the name Catholic certainly wasnt around as a Christian church anyway.

Now, in Acts we can see a glimpse of how different worship styles came about. Paul wrote concerning the fact that people (Christians) were aligning themselves with a certain messanger rather than aligning themselves with God. He told them to stop following the messanger whomever it was Paul or Apollos etc.

But, alas the people still continued to do this as we can see from the many different church names and styles of worship. We were told point blank not to do this, but here we are with it all around us.

As for the extra books, they are historical documents and even within the Catholic bible, you can note at the top of the page it will state that it is a historical document, meaning not believed to have been written with GOD as the author and the writer as his instrument, but written by the author explaining cultural and historical customs and laws.

There is nothing wrong with reading them, they are quite informative and can give us understanding of how the lifestyles differed from then to now and how people reacted to their enviroments.

These extra books are called the Apocrypa. They are not the word of God. But the rest of the Bible is the Word of God. Catholics believe in a lot of things that is just not Biblical. For example they believe that a person can earn their way into heaven. They also believe in pergetory. Niether of these thing are in the Bible.

the Catholic church is the original Christian Church. Now protestants want to confuse everybody by so calling themselves Christians and attacking the catholic church, saying catholisism is the worst thing.
The Catholic Bible is the MOST COMPLETE and the ONE to be read, not the protestant version that lacks of so many things. The truth is that Prostestant/Baptist/Evangelist "Christians" had to modify the bible in order to support their false statements.
It is not true Catholics believe you earn your way to heaven. Catholic church doesnt even ask for money, on the other hand.. Protestants do ask for money... a lot of money.

Just go and check their REAL lifestyle.

Actually Christianity began with Jesus, when He came to earth, His own people denied, and crucified Him, but His apostles, spread the truth about Jesus and Chrisitianity took off, if the Jews had accepted Jesus then us Gentiles would not have been given the opportunity to learn about Christ, and receive Him and His promise of eternal life.
