Why did Muslims riot and became irate over a negative picture of their god Mohamad? I think he was a jerk.?

I am not trying to offend anyone. I just do not understand why they did this a few months back. For the one who reported me, I can understand reporting for racial prejudice but I am not bashing a race. I am just curious about your religion. God bless you all.

That's not actually the reason they rioted.

They weren't happy about the mohammed thing because, in their religion, it is blasphemy to make pictures of mohammed.

But the reason they rioted is because their local governments incited them to do so. In those nations, they have...a lot of problems. A whole lot. Many of these are due to the fact that their governments are incompetant. Things like inflation and unemployment and the like are so high there that it's hard for an american to imagine it.
So, the people tend to get rather upset with the governing bodies.

But, as you know, these people are also typically poorly educated and fervently religious. Thus, the governments used the cartoons to incited hatred of the west, and they intentionally allowed people to riot; normally, in those countries, a riot would be quickly crushed by heavily armed authorities. This served to distract the people in those countries from their actual problems, thus easing the pressure on the governments for a period of time.

And don't think we're immune to that sort of thing in the west. The American government, at very least, uses distraction tactics too. They're just a little more subtle, and never violent.

Hey, No Muslim worships Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him). We regard him as a messenger of GOD who was a human being. We respect him but not elevate him to the position of GOD. GOD is ONE. This is the real concept of all the religions including CHristianity, Hinduism etc.

But contrary to this no one knows about the REAL message.

They were stirred up by Islamic clerics who were ratcheting up pressure to force the Danish government to punish the Danish newspaper (Jyllands Posten) that published the pictures. It was just another coercive tactic employed by the followers of a literal interpretation of the Koran.

Mohammed isn't their god, God is their god. Mohammed is just the person who founded the religion.

It probably offended them because when someone adheres to a religion, they often love it, attach themselves to it, base many of their life decisions and habits on its teachings; and thus, when someone mocks it, they become reasonably upset. Perhaps it was an overreaction, but I've actually never seen the picture; I swear, I've never seen it! I really want to though; whoever has a link to it, please send it.

You may not be a racist, your just ignorant, Mohammed is not Muslim's God, he is their prophet, the same way Jesus and Abraham were prophets in Christianity and Judaism, respectively.
And whynotaskdon, what do you mean by OUR Jesus, I don't consider Jesus to be mine....
