stay of 2 days from the result of an overdosage of a suicide attempt within this year that still got accepted into the program? I have no criminal record or drug record, but within this year I had to be hospitalized for a couple days as a result from a suicide attempt. I don't want to waste my time or money trying to get into the program if this is going to be a problem. By the way, my diagnosis is major/clinical depression.

The BON (Board of Nursing) is more concerned if you are a danger to patients and able to perform your job. In particular, are you going to steal from patients, steal from the hospital, are you a drug addict, will you steal narcotics and abuse them, that sort of thing. I don't see your depression or suicide attempt as a problem as far as admission to the nursing program.

However, each state's BON and each school has their own policy. First I would Google "Board of Nursing" + your state's name, find their website info and give them a call. They are generally very helpful. Then call the schools you may be interested in attending and speak to the nursing advisor. They are generally very helpful.

Your state and federal disability and discrimination laws apply to you too even though your problem is not apparent to the eye. If you go to a state or community college and are currently on antidepressants, they may actually have provisions for students with disabilities. I had a friend who had anxiety disorder and that counted as a disability since she was treated and on meds. She got to take her tests in a private room and got an extra hour than the rest of us - nice.

Good luck!
