First of all, why didn't the owner of the vehicle give you their insurance information? You could have the money that you spent on the dog, the cremation, and the pain and suffering compensated. You will never truly be able to replace your dog. You will try for a life time because no two dogs are a like. I know how it is to have a loved animal lost. But if you feel that you are ready and that you can get a new dog without having high hopes that they will be just a like then I say go adopt one. You can call your local SPCA or Humane Society. Believe it or not we do get this breed in pretty regularly. If you can locate the person that hit your dog and you do recoup your loss then you will be able to go to the same breeder and maybe buy one that was related to the dog that was lost. I am so sorry that he died in such a harsh way and that you lost someone that you loved. I deal with animals dying every day and it isn't an easy thing to have to deal with. I do believe that there is a very special place for animals to go when they die. I also wanted you to know that only you can decide when the time is right to replace him. Good Luck...... My sympathy is sent to you.

Oh ok. I gained't say something about each of the chis I see get positioned down even lovable ones that were "needed", or the shown actuality that putting 2 random dogs at the same time is a thanks to guarantee badly bred dogs, or that breeding them in any respect takes abode faraway from dogs in shelters and rescues. Your aunts and cousins choose a canines? they want to bypass to the preserve. I PROMISE there are a ton of chis there. as well, at 5, your b*tch is merely too previous to be bred, and chihuahuas merely about continuously want c-sections which value upwards of $2000.

Don't let some of these insensitive people make you feel like dirt. Who are they to judge you anyhow? I don't know where you can find an affordable pup, but you should look on www.petfinder.com As far as if it's too soon to look for a new dog, thats a decision that only you can make. If you feel like you're ready to move on and take on a new dog, than do it! It's your decision and no one else's. Do what you feel is right for you, and what will make you feel better.

Well I think you should get another dog when you feel ready to take another life into your hands, but I don't think you should get another chi. That would be like replacing your deceased one. You should just get another small breed dog. If you want something similar to a chi, get a miniature pinscher. They are just like chi's but a tiny bit different. Sorry about your dog. I hope he's happy in doggie heaven!

Here's an idea: get one from the pound for about a $50 adoption fee, and spend the rest on a LEASH!
As for how long to wait - only you can decide that but I seriously suggest you need to review your responsibilities as a pet owner before you even *think* about getting another dog. Pets don't 'just' get hit by cars, someone lets them loose and sets the stage for a tragedy.

I am so so sorry!! If you feel you want another chi now, then it is time to get another one. Sometimes the only thing that will ease your pain is another dog. Look at the shelters and see if there are any chis in there. Also check out the link below.

i am sooo sorry for your little chihuahua. I just lost my cat a few months ago. He went outside and never came back. I waited a month before I got another one in hopes he would come home but he didn't. I think if you feel comfortable getting one now, you should. Maybe that will help mend your broken heart a little faster.
It may sound strange, but maybe it was his time to go so another one could be loved by you.
Good luck and best wishes.

I am so sorry that happened to you. I don't know what I would do if I lost my dog. (I have a sweet dachshund!) But if you are wanting to get one, then do it. It might help you recover, if you had a new dog to invest your love in. You might try a Chihuahua rescue organization for your next dog. It would probably be cheaper and you'd be rescuing a Chi that needs a home.

start looking only after you made sure your yard is more secure so your new dog doesnt get out and get hit either
you need a good fence or dog run....
NEVER NEVER get from a pet store - you will pay WAY too much for a low quality pet
get from breeder or chihuahua rescue or adopt
probably can start looking - but dont get untill you fence your yard
best not to get a dog same sex and color as your last one
