Because people kept confusing him with the artist Vincent Van Gogh?
==========================
Oh, you meant Vincent Van Gogh.

"Van Gogh suffered from various diseases, before he cut off part of his ear, and afterwards probably too. He is definitely not the mad painter, but, although his mental problems are not in dispute, he only painted (or was allowed to paint) during his lucid periods. [citation needed]. .

Debate has raged over the years as to the source of Van Gogh's mental illness and its effect on his work. Over 150 psychiatrists have attempted to label his illness, and some 30 different diagnoses have been suggested.[63] Some of the theories which have been suggested include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, syphilis, poisoning from swallowed paints, and temporal lobe epilepsy. Any of these could have been the culprit and been aggravated by malnutrition, overwork, a fondness for the alcoholic beverage absinthe, and insomnia. Some people have argued, in the case of temporal lobe epilepsy, that the disease may have led to his prolific body of work. (TLE cases tend to show symptoms of hypergraphia and hyperreligiosity and it has been suspected by some as being sources of religious visions and creativity.)

In the November 2005 issue of Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Paul L. Wolf, M.D., presented his analysis of how disease, drugs, and chemicals might have influenced the retinal vision of Van Gogh. Wolf speculates that the Yellow Color Vision defect in Van Gogh developed as a side effect of his love of a type of liquor known as absinthe, containing a neurotoxin called thujone found in wormwood oil.

Another recently proposed illness is lead poisoning. The paints used at the time were lead-based, and one of the symptoms of lead poisoning is a swelling of the retinas which would have caused the halo effect seen in many of Van Gogh's works.[64]"

He suffered throughout his life from mental instability and periods of depression. While he was very talented, the one thing he was good at didn't make him any money. Personally, I think suicide is irrational in any situation, but viewing Vincent Van Gogh's history, it is not surprising.

Vincent indeed was a tortured soul, something we've attributed to lack of sale, absinthe or injesting too much paint. Whatever brought on the impulse to shoot himself, only he could say and maybe given his mental state he would not be able to tell us even if he was able to speak. I believe a rage flowed whenever he was unable to create a painting that truly expressed his unique vision. That added on top of heavy criticism, both for his art and lifestyle, lack of money, rejections in love, poor diet and drinking, and immense frustration in not being able to please anyone, including himself...was more than he could bear. Still only Vincent --if anyone -- can really answer.

He is one of the world's best known, best-loved and most expensive artists. He is also widely seen as the lone, tortured, mad, bohemian artist, who cut off his ear and was driven to an early suicide by lack of recognition for his genius.

i've got faith that that's between the main recognizable artworks ever. To me the swirling of the sky inspires ideas of the deep ocean, which too sounds like a starry sky interior the superb suited situations. i think of the colours evoke emotion in human beings and sooner or later you will see it and it feels unhappy, day after immediately, happy, the subsequent calming and so on. If I bear in mind superb suited VanGogh replaced into in an insane asylum whilst he made this piece which provides a sprint extra on your ideas by using fact the sky could be interpreted as turbulent. as quickly as back, I end that at the back of each and every dazzling artist/singer/author/comedian, and so on......... Is a mad guy. desire this facilitates. BeeJee I delight on your comments and actually completely agree. i will not be able to delight in a lot of stuff I see yet I do realize it because it ought to extra healthful somebody else's style thoroughly. As for Jackson Pollock. In some procedures his artwork is a not hardship-free pill to swallow, noticeably after seeing his technique. that's an hardship-free argument that a 5-12 months previous could make artwork which you will not know if it have been a Pollock or not. i assume the biggest questions from the critic concentration on Pollock's mania, melancholy and dependancy and if in any know those ought to impact his "drip". individually i don't think of a drip could be in many instances motivated with the aid of a lot different than gravity yet i'm a huge believer interior the certainty that artists frequently (photographers/painters/writers/poets/co... any imaginative type human beings i assume. i know individually it rather is actual yet I do experience at the back of each and every of the greatness in each and every a sort of artists there is maximum probable some turmoil, strife or inner suffering. i think of of what my artwork could be if each and every of the failings I somewhat have seen (noticeably undesirable issues) weren't influencing. As for VanGoh, if is somewhat his technique in my opinion that makes his artwork so beautiful. Zoom in close and notice how as a replace of somewhat utilising man or woman hues he somewhat lays stroke with the aid of stroke to create the colour ie: as a replace of brushing on a stroke of eco-friendly, he somewhat placed small strokes one yellow and one blow superb suited up against one yet another so whilst seen from suitable distance your eye and ideas blend them and create the eco-friendly. only considered one of my motives for liking him despite the fact that i'm not a extensive fan of his era or style. :) Have an excellent day.,
