I have a color tv. I left it on today while i went to work. When I came home from work, the picture was in black and white. I shut off the tv for about 5 min. The pic was in color but soon changed back to black and white again. This is not the first time this has happened. This doesn't happen very often and most of the time it displays the picture in color. Does anyone know what is wrong with my television??

Most common problem is where user interacts with set. Check that the colour control is not loose or been pressed in to hard and broken off the pcb (printed circuit board) Alternatively just make sure one of the kids, (or similar) hasn't adjusted the colour to minimum. With many sets these days the colour is adjusted using the same up and down buttons as for volume, but u need to select colour, which should bring up on the screen a little circle with three dots- then you know you've selected the colour control! Can also be poor signal reception. Snowy usually.
Good Luck

You have an intermittent component in your TV. It apparently stops working when it warms up. That is a common type of intermittent failure, and could be a bad part or a bad connection somewhere. It can only be fixed by a TV service shop. Before having that done, check the cost--it may be cheaper to buy a new set.

a component in the 3.58 Mhz color oscillator is failing. in most newer TV's this oscillator is incorporated inside a Video/Chroma I.C they only thing external is the color oscillator crystal. this crystal can fail and be intermittant. but thats where your problem is, the color oscillator
