My canon powershot A520 recently got its memory card formatted with all of my favorite pictures of people i'll never see again, so i'm really mad, and i wondered if there is ANY way to recover anything?

I would've saved it to a computer but i was a five hour drive away from my comp. and i let someone borrow it...

You can download this software that would recover your memory card data: http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/smartrecovery.html
If it doesn't work, try to search for more "card recovery" softwares in your search engine, there are loads that you can buy. Hope that helps!

All may not be lost. By formatting a memory card all that has happened is a new allocation table has been written to the card. The data is still there except in those sectors where the allocation table data was written. I'm not familiar with data recovery tools for flash memory devices but I do know they have been around for years for hard disks. See if you can track down a utility that will allow you to recover the data on your card, at least most of it.

pc inspector smart recovery is free and can do it as long as you didnt take to many more pictures after formating

ps... i would never let that friend hold any electronic device ever again if hes that stupid to format someone elses camera

If you formatted it, they are gone permanently.
Why didn't you download them to your computer?
I always do that AND back them up on a second disc drive, since you NEVER know when a disc drive will quit.
