The jobs I put down were mostly in the Electronics field and one of them was Open Electronics. Do they give you a list of jobs to choose from at basic, or do they just give you a job? Thank you for your answer.

I made and 81 QT on the ASVAB and didn't make below a 70 on the individual sections.

Get a guaranteed job , they will give you a couple to choose from but not many all you need to do is tell the recruiter this is what i want to do and if they aren't willing to work around want and tell you that the job you want is unavailable tell him you will come back when it is. Don't let them call the shots you can't get into trouble even though you are sworn into the dep doesn't mean you have sworn into the airforce yet. If you have a Guaranteed If you go open electronic and get an AFSC that you turn out not to like you would have to wait until your retraining window opens just to switch.
You scored good on the ASVAB and they still gave you an open job? That is crap i would be demanding answers. Use the chain of command start with the recruiter and ask why they wont secure you an AFSC he will give you tell you a little bs about how nothing is available blah blah and then all you do is go to their supervisor and so on.

Everyone that I know in the Air Force that went in as Open Gen. became Security Forces. Unless you want to do SF for the rest of your career you better get your MOS in writing so you get a job that you will like.

good luck, i was air force and general is like the security police and pencil pushers. you might try retaking the asvab and try for better scores. i was Aerospace Ground Equipment Mechanic (AGE).
p.s. they just give you a set of orders with a job on it and that is your job.

Do not leave MEPS until you have something in writing with what your MOS (Job and training) will be. They do not assign you anything in bootcamp, get it now and do not allow them to put you down as general.

DO NOT GO INTO THE USAF AS OPEN GENERAL!!
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES!!
20+ years in the USAF and I never knew ANYONE that came in "open general" and got a decent job!

OH No you get it in writing what job you r willing to take or they can put you anywhere. fix it now, or don't join.
