You mean the five Guards Regiments of the Household troops that provide soldiers for ceremonial details at Buckingham Palace?
The Coldstream Guards (Senior Regiment in the British Army)
Grenadier Guards
Scots Guards
Welsh Guards
Irish Guards

The black hats are Bearskins which is what they wore during the Napoleonic wars and Crimea. It's purely ceremonial much like the US Army's "Old Guard" which wears Revolutionary War uniforms
or full Dress Blues and provies details at presidential function, etc. in Washington,DC.
Those five regiments have illustrious battle histories and the Scots Guards had a unit in Iraq when I was there.Very excellent soldiers

They are the Guards(somewhat unoriginal name) Their are the Coldstream Guards, the Grenadier Guards ,the Welsh Guards, the Irish Guards and the Scots Guards. One way to tell the difference between is to count the buttons on their tunics The Irish have three buttons space and then three more if I remember right.
These are the permanent units who rotate through duty but selected regiments from throughout the Commonwealth do have the honour to serve. Two years ago the PPCLI were so honoured.

From Wikipedia:

Changing the Guard, at Buckingham Palace, London

The Queen's Guard consists of different regiments at different times, but is generally provided by the five Foot Guards regiments of the Household Division, whose full ceremonial dress consists of a tall bearskin hat and red tunic. Additionally, it is not just restricted to the British Army. The Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and units from Commonwealth countries also take part.
