THANK YOU! It also drives me crazy when I have to lean out of the window of my car an extra time at the drive up ATM to press that I want to "continue in English." I don't think they're dumb though. We let them get away with not learning English. If everyone's going to cater to your language, why bother to learn the official language of the country? They're actually pretty smart since they've learned how to get so much free stuff out of a country most of them don't even belong to...

I think that if you are going to be a citizen of the USA then you should know the english language. You dont have to speak in it all the time, but the USA is prominantly english speaking citizens, so anyone who lives here should be able to speak it. And i am so tired of the automated messages that say the message in enjsligh then spanish...its irritating, because I want to hear ENGLISH, not spanish...its a waste of time. If we go to Mexico, then i think that we should know spanish, if we move there that is, so that way we can communicate with the people who live there. I work in retail, and it drives me insane when i get a customer who cant speak english...there is no way of telling them anything, or getting anything thru to them. This is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and if you want to live here and enjoy OUR country....then SPEAK ENGLISH...if not then get out, and go somewhere where people can understand you. This is the USA I DON'T HAVE TO KNOW SPANISH...so if you can't speak english, then oh well, guess you're sh!t out of luck huh??? Thanks for posting this question, this has been driving me crazy for a long long long time. I live in California, and its REALLLY bad here...believe me it is.

I agree with you completely about this language situation. This is America, if they're going to illegaly come to this country that we call home they need to learn OUR language, respect OUR culture, and honor OUR holidays. Even if they come legally they need to at the very least learn the language. Well, there are far mor important things going on in this world to really worry about that though. So just love your country, vote for the right people to get in office and do all you can to be 110% American!

Yes, but more than I dislike that English/Spanish thing (I mean, what about the Koreans or French???), I really just can't stand the stupid computerized questions anyway. I'm old enough to remember when every business had a real operator answer the phone & direct your call. I miss that!

Hey, I have had it too with this "dial 1 for English" deal. Here is how I am helping fix it. My recorder now says:
"Dial one for English"
"Dial two to disconnect until you learn English and can call back."

That's the menu item tat bother me the least. It's the ones that ask you put in your phone number and account number thtat bother me the most, because the first person you talk to asks you the same stuff, plus if I went to Spanish country and needed phone information would like to talk to English speaking person.

This is the United States. English has been the national language for a coupla years now. If somebody wants to live here, then they can just damned well learn the language. Does that sound racist? Ask me if I care!
