Why do Christians feel comfortable breaking the Golden Rule? How do the rationalize using part of the Bible to stand against granting gays and lesbians the same rights and priviledges granted by the US government with a marriage licence while completely disregarding the Golden Rule?

BTW, as informed here on Answers the Golden Rule can be found in Matthew 7:12 and Luke 6:31. A sincere thanks to the many who earlier provided that answer.

In Luke's Gospel, Jesus elaborates on this "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" principle. He says, "Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful." (Luke 6:30-36)

I do no harm to anyone. God created me as I am.

I don't see where a Christian's stance on gay marraige is doing anything to a gay or lesbian person?

I am not in the least bit interested in marrying a gay or lesbian person -- so I wouldn't want to do unto them anything at all. I can clearly see where the Bible stands on that issue and I agree with the Bible as the inherent Word of God on this issue.

You seem to be interpreting that statement as being so liberal that you would allow nearly anything under the "Golden Rule". No there are things that are wrong and the Golden Rule doesn't make them right.

By the way you worded the question -- I know that you aren't going to listen to an answer that is diametrically opposed to your view. Yet you did ask the question -- so I am telling you the answer.

Christians do not break the Golden Rule by taking the Biblical stance toward gay marraige. It has nothing to do with their "rights or priviledges" -- it has everything to do with the gay lifestyle being a sin -- not unlike greed or lust or pride or putting anything ahead of your relationship with the Lord.

No one is singling the gay issue out (unless folks like you by dwelling on it). Sin comes in many forms and we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We need His love, mercy and forgiveness for whatever sin(s) we commit.

1Corinthians 6:9 Don’t you know that evil people will not receive God’s kingdom? Don’t be fooled. Those who commit sexual sins will not receive the kingdom. Neither will those who worship statues of gods or commit adultery. Neither will men who are prostitutes or who commit homosexual acts. 10 Neither will thieves or those who always want more and more. Neither will those who are often drunk or tell lies or cheat. People who live like that will not receive God’s kingdom. 11 Some of you used to do those things. But your sins were washed away. You were made holy. You were made right with God. All of that was done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Don't stop reading too soon. Verse 11 has a lot to say. Yes, it IS a sin, but it is NOT PERMANENT. It CAN BE FORGIVEN! Those who desire to leave their sin behind them are NOT ALONE.

How do you manage to equate sin, which homosexuality is...with breaking the golden rule? Do unto others as they would do unto you is not carte blanche to break all God's laws and expect no one to notice.

Amazing.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Ok lets examine that shall we. What I do unto others (and would like to have done unto me) is to FOLLOW the will of the GOD who said those words. This God wants me to lead a sinless life if possible and help others along this same path. Do unto others does not mean let others go merrily along the path of destruction (because I surely wouldn't want others to let me go down that path) Do unto others means PULL them from the fires of hell if they are going there blindly (as I would like others to do unto me). Can I make it any clearer?

Would you allow your children to run blindfolded into a mine field or would you tell them they need to stay in the house (even if they objected and said "it was in thier nature to run and play as they want" and then complained that "they would let you run out there") and then sulkily said under thier breathes "do unto others..."
