The Godparents need to be involved in the baptized person's life.

Give them an open invitation to all birthdays and major life celebrations.

With love in Christ.

Well I am curious, since you are not 'religious' as you say I am curious as to why you are having your son baptised. Are you doing it because you think it is the thing to do? I think maybe it would be more important to find out why people get baptized than what you should get someone as a gift for being the godmother of your child.

I think it is more important for you to look into the purpose of baptism. Most biblical Christians believe that the purpose of baptism is an outward showing of an inward commitment to God. That it is an act of obedience when we accept Jesus into our lives and become born-again. It is a conscious decision that is made based on our need for forgiveness because of the sins we have committed against God. I am not sure how old your son is but my guess is that He is not old enough to understand what sin is and the need for a savior, nor would he understand the reason for baptism and why one does it to show obedience to God.

Without this basic understanding then what is is happening is nothing more than sprinkling water and getting the child wet. You can do that under your sink or in the tub.

I'm not sure it's required you buy anything for her, in fact, I'm not sure it's required she buy anything for your son. This event is a baptism, your son is already recieving the best gift anyone can give him, Jesus Christ and Gods love. What in the world can you get your son's godmother that is better than her being able to witness this beautiful moment in her Godsons life? Christs birthday is already marred by all the retail stores saying we have to give each other alot of expensive gifts, let this event be remembered for what it is, a Baptism. I think to take some pictures of the event to share with family and your son later in life is enough.

Why is the Godmother getting a gift and not the your son?

Anyway, if your not "religious" why are you having your son baptized. Baptism is something very serious not something one just does out of routine and tradition. It has eternal consequences. You don't what to give you son a false sense of security. With all due respect, have you really thought this through. Are you a committed Christian who is willing to follow Jesus Christ even unto death?

Because they are so much a part of the baptism or christening and have gladly accepted responsibility for assisting in the spiritual education of your child, the godparents gift should be something as unique and special as they are. It should show appreciation for all the guidance they will be providing your child in the years to come. Having it personalized will make it a lasting keepsake.

Perhaps a nice religious gift since it is a religious occasion. Something like an angel pin or cross pendent to be worn during the ceremony. Or maybe a nice bible marking the occasion. It would both be personal and memorable.

How about a silver frame with a picture of the actual baptism or just a picture of her and the baby. Have it engraved.

How about a new bible, or a devotional book from a Christian bookstore? Actually-just go to a Christian bookstore and any of the employees could steer you in the right direction for an appropriate gift.

I can't remember if there is a standard, but how about some cute trinket that has the baptismal date etched in it?

The folks at the Hallmark store might be able to help you...

A godmother is supposed to be a Christian example to the little one. Buy her a Bible.
