Alcoholism doesnt mean you are drunk every day!, even in you drink a beer everyday you are an alcoholic!!.. As long as you can control it , its not that bad, the problem begins when you get drunk every day!

If she meets some criteria, such as not wanting to stop or not being able to stop. There are a few other criteria and the internet or other Yahoo!Answers may have them.

Let's assume her need for alcohol is due to her body sensing that there is too little food in her blood stream to keep her brain alive. Food in the bloodstream is glucose (a form of sugar), and is made from digestive processes breaking down the food into that basic sugar. Alcohol is a carbohydrate that is quickly ingested and quickly converted into that sugar.

If that is the case, which can be tested by having a doctor test for insulin level (a fasting blood insulin test), which should test high, or a glucose tolerance test of 6 hour length (insist on 6 hours) which should show a drop of more than 50 in a one hour period, or a drop below 70 at any time, then the solution is to eat other foods that satisfy a body's need for sugar, or to trick her body into being satisfied with a lower level of sugar.

4 beers isnt really a lot, particularly for an alcoholic. Are they 40 ozs?

While beer does typically have a lower alcohol volume than hard liquor, the need to drink every single night does indicate she might not realize her drinking is out of control.

When someone is addicted to alcohol, their body goes through withdrawl if they do not have enough - they will shake, feel sick to their stomach, anxiety, amongst other symptoms depending on the person. They drink, forget about the withdrawl symtpoms (most people don't even realize they have the withdrawl symptoms), and continue the cycle every day. The withdrawl symtoms alone can be enough to send someone to the hospital if they attempt to quit without help and actually go more than 3 days without drinking.

Here's the worst part: Your friend is never going to admit she has a problem. She will likely be offended if you try to intervene. If she "cares" about you - she will just not tell you she is drinking or not drink in front of you and likely shut you out of parts of her life - this is what someone very close to me did when after a doctor told him he needed to stop, and I tried to help - I thought he had quit, only to realize he managed to hide it from everybody for 8 months until nearly dying from alcohol poisoning.

The most you can do, is try to talk to her - don't be confrontational - just be honest. tell her you're there for her, you'd love to see her try and quit. there are a lot of places to get help - treatment centers, AA, etc.but she has to want to help herself. Unfortunately for most people with a drinking problem, it takes something major (and in a lot of cases when its beyond "too late") for them to open their eyes and realize how their behavior is affecting others.

You may want to check out groups such as al-anon and others to get some more ideas for yourself on how to help her - they're designed for people who care about someone with a drinking problem. Most of all you have to remember, that whatever happens. is not your fault - it is your friend who chooses to drink. You are showing you care now, and you can continue to show you care, but be prepared for her to push you away, especially if this is in the early stages.

that person is well on the way to be being an alcoholic. drinking that much each day will become more than habit . it will be a dependency on beer.

In my book, yes that is the behavior of an alcoholic. I bet you that if you ask her about it she will tell you she just likes it and it makes her relax and she can stop any time she wants...

Lets put it this way , she certainly has a problem that needs to be addressed or they will become an alcoholic.

The experts would definately say she was! I perfer to judge on the ability to stop...can this person stop drinking for say one month if you asked her to...if not she has a major problem!
