My dog is treated like a human. He does whatever I do. If I go out to visit, he goes too. He eats what I do plus some dog food. He has his own toy box. He gets lots of treats.
We have several play times daily. He sleeps in my bed with his own pillow and blankie. He has never been crated because there was never a need. If I go away and leave him behind, he has never done anything to the house.
He likes to help me when I garden. If I could just get him to tell the difference between a weed and a flower, it would be great.
He likes to lay on his back and have his tummy rubbed. I think that is his favorite thing. I love that little guy and he knows it. He is spoiled and he knows that too.

I take her for runs, give her treats, roll around on the grass with her, lay on her, take her fishing, take her swimming, keep her dish full, when I'm at the computer I'll reach down and pet her, when she's laying under the table I'll give her a foot rub with my feet, her favorite thing is when I feed Alex (cat) she gets to lick the can. She never lets my truck or my boat leave w/o her and she rarely leaves my side.

Remember this poem ....
A Dog's Prayer
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest - and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

I"ve heard scratching them under their chin is a sign of affection to them.
Also, most dogs love baby talk. So be sure to sometimes talk to your pooch in a high pitched voice that you would normally reserve for toddlers.
Dogs, just like toddlers, love it when you get down to their level on the floor and play with them.

You can kiss him and talk to him. Actually tell him you love him because they do understand if you say it enough they can learn to attach the emotion of love to the words "I love you." Dogs are sooo smart. And as everyone else said buy him treats and toys, they don't have to be expensive cuz dogs don't know the difference or care. They just like to get gifts just as we do. And take him for walks and to the park. Also make sure he has something soft and comfy to sleep on if he doesn't sleep with you.

You can show it by playing games that the dog likes, giving him special treats. Basically, if you are paying attention to the dog and doing more than just providing basic needs, the dog will know that you love him.

Well, you should play with it. And (litterally) say "I love you!" even throw in "Good dog!", just be a free mind when it cames to showing you affection with your dog. Be playful, be loving, and be a good owner, take it out on walks, buy it a toy even. Just do what you would want your parents to do if they love you. They would most likely say "I love you," or, "Good job!" on the things you say or do right. You can even hug your dog, and you can even (if it holds still) kiss it on the head. Do whatever you think you're comfortable with. * ^_^ *

Spending time with your dog in any way is the best way to show affection to your dog. Dogs love being around people and they hate being alone.
