Animals will get along if they can establish a hierarchy. The only problem is that chihuahua's are a breed of dog that is very territorial and dominant and so are cats. So you may have a little bit of a problem but eventually they should all work it out. The cats will probably double team your doggy for a while but eventually the animals will get along. Just make sure that they are monitored at all times when they are together for the first week or so until the animals can be together without getting into serious tussles. They will fight a litle but that is natural and they probably will only be doing it to establish who will be dominant.

I just got a Chihuahua and I have two cats. One of the cats is older and very familiar with dogs. She just kind of ignores the dog and when it bothers her, she just moves to where the dog can't reach her. The young kitten will raise hackles, hiss, and strike at the dog when it gets close to her. The dog is learning to respect her and keep it's distance from that cat!
More than likely your cats (if they aren't used to dogs) will get kind of hissy and spitty at first. It will help to use a baby gate and close off one room and place the cat's food, water, and litter box there. That way if they want to get away from the dog, all they have to do is jump over the gate and the dog won't be able to follow them. A Chihuahua really won't be able to hurt the cats, and the cats won't feel too threatened by the dog due to it's small size. Eventually, they should all get along. I wouldn't worry too much about whether the cats will pick on the dog; most cats just want to get away from the dog. I don't think it will matter too much what sex it is, but a female might integrate better into the household since you already have two male animals.
Hope this helps!

It is a myth that dogs and cats don't get along.
First came my parrot in 1991; then my 13 year old cat; then came my 12 year old siamese cat; then came my 11 year old skip dog; then my 10 year old twin shepherds and 7 years ago my little prince dog. my skip dog went to his reward 2 years ago; in 2002 I rescued a 5 year old black cat and 4 months ago I brought in an eight week old puppy.
We are one big happy family. My cats and dogs now just shrug their shoulders and get along.
It does take a couple of days of adjustment for everyone. But then all is well.
My only concern for you is whether or not your cats will think the chihuqhuas is a larger mouse and chase him down. Nip that in the bud.
As far as gender goes, I wouldn't put 2 female of the same species together. Whenever you put 2 females together you have a fight to discover who is Queen. It doesn't seem to matter if you have a male dog and a male cat or female dog or female cat.
Have fun.

1. If you plan on renting, many landlords won't allow pits as they consider them an "aggressive" breed. 2. If you plan on owning a home, many home owners insurance companies will cancel or deny your policy for owning an aggressive breed. The key is finding a dog that has been around cats previously and doesn't care, and find out if your cats can be introduced to the new dog before fully deciding to take the new addition home. Many humane societies are willing to offer private meet and greets by appointment with your current pet(s) and prospective pet. Check with animal services and humane societies in your area and look at the dog for it's personality, not it's breed. My only worry is that if your cats are used to chihuahuas, a large breed dog may be a bit of a shock at first, and may take some adjustment time. My friend has an English Bulldog that her cats are terrified of, and hide from him. However, her cats play with the neighbor's Yorkie's all the time. So yeah, size matters to cats sometimes. :)

It definetly depends on the cats! Chances are within time, they'll get used to the dog and just do their own thing. I highly doubt that there will be bloodshed or anything, since chihuahua's are so small.
Also please ADOPT!!
There are many many chihuahua's in shelters/rescues that need good homes!!!!
Also--- if you get a dog from a rescue, the foster mom will be able to tell you whether or not the dog is good with cats, which makes it easier!!

I had 2 Siamese cats and a little chi and they were best friends. They would all curl up on the sofa together and sleep all day. My chi is male and my cats were both male and female. All three would play together If the cat doesn't like it trust me they will find out quick. EDDIE our CHI knew Piper the female was only in the mood to play sometimes and Leo my male was always up to play. they would wrestle around and chase each other up and down the furniture and halls. GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU TAKE LOTS OF PICS, I DID> :)

My sister got a brand new Chihuahua, and brought it over to my house....my cat saw it and was on the hunt...we picked up the puppy just in time to save it from the cat!
We laughed so hard, but she was able to take her puppy home to safety.

You would be surprised at how well they would get along together. In no tiime at all, the kitties will be sleeping with the dog and vice versa. I have seen it.
