Is it inferior schooling, or inferior parenting?

Inferior expectations. Parents expect the schools to dicipline children, schools expect parents to do likewise. And unfortunately, some people expect children to grow up knowing right from wrong without being punished when they do wrong.

I take offence to this comment. Not all children today are idiots. Some may have had inferior parenting although at times inferior parenting causes them to grow up much faster and in fact be more mature than their parents are themselves. Inferior schooling could also have some affect on some of todays youth. With teachers trying too look after so many students some end up falling between the cracks and not getting the help that they need. I believe that the largest cause of many of the issues of todays youth is the media. It sets unrelisic idealy before youth. The media also causes many to believe that they can get away with violent things because of what they watch. I am only a teenager, we are often considered children. May I ask: Do I sound like an idiot to you?

Or perhaps the adults of today are stereotypical.

Not all kids are morons.

It could be a combination of inferior schooling and parenting. Also, the middle class is disappearing (assuming you live in the U.S.), leaving a greater gap between the rich (only about 1% of the population) and an increasingly growing poverty. If the government could find a chance for kids to have more of equal chances rather than discriminatory for whatever reason, I believe we could have a more stable future.

Kids learn from observation, so that includes mommy and daddy, teacher-teacher, the government, TELEVISION, MEDIA...the list is endless.

I suspect it's a little of both...

Public education may not be chalenging enough for some kids- that was my problem...

Public education also simply teaches facts, no ethics or morals to base behavior on.

I don't think critical thinking is a specific part of the curriculum, but I had a Literature teacher who loved to play devil's advocate- I enjoyed her class, b/c it made me think about my opinions and beliefs and perceptions.

Parenting-
Kids learn about laws intended to prevent child abuse and then use them to intimidate their parents out of disciplining them and teaching them those basic life lessons that make "good people"...

Also, there seems to be a trend where parents were tough- demanding proper behavior (50's and before), then their kids decided to be "pals" with their kids (raising children in the early 70's), and now those kids aren't sure how to raise ethical polite children... like that tantrum-thrower in the grocery store the other day, you know the one...

I think that your statement is quit unfair. You may get that impression about them from what you hear and what you see on the TV. You don't know all the kids out there and of coarse you never hear any positive stories about kids because we are being fed fear based new, etc. It is sad that that's what you think of our future generation, you might as well go dig a hole and lay down there. I know there are great, smart, caring kids and teens out there. I hold great hope for the next generation coming up and I think that they need more understanding, guidance, and a sense of self worth. I think that it is up to us to help them and not leave them out on there own. Maybe you should do some volunteer work with big brothers and sisters. That might refresh your point of view.

This is just my opinion but the kids are not idiots they are merely a reflection of the influences they have on their lives ,so if they go to a school where cussing is practiced they will cuss, if their parents are not understanding they will not try to understand others ,resulting in misbehavior and bullying . I am not trying to contradict you but that is my opinion.
