People have been dying from alcoholism for a long time. I myself am a recovering alcoholic. Sober now for a little over 2 and a half years. I have been TOLD I had to get off the drinking or it could kill ME. So in other words, I have had liver damage done to me.

As with so many other things, people have difficulty moderating their consumption. You know the old addage "Too much of a good thing...".

Drinking like smoking and other addictions is something you have to be strong enough to fight. I can tell when I've been drinking too much because I'll go through a bottle of scotch in a week or put on some weight (lots of calories in alcohol). When I see that I tell myself to cool it. I take a break and ease back in.

Personal responsibility is difficult to assume and requires significant maturity. Not to sound insulting but I'd say most people aren't able to pull it off.

Alcohol is a poison- the buzz you get from drinking- that's the extra that your body isn't being able to metabolize via your liver... and that's why alcohol damages the liver- the liver has to work overtime to catch up, get the poison out of your system...

At the same time, when there is un-metabolized alcohol in the blood stream (aka- when you're drunk), that alcohol in your blood impares your judgement and we get drunk wife- or girlfriend-beaters, we get drunk drivers, etc...

The main problems that occur with alcohol is when people drink too much, too fast- causing liver damage or when they drink irresponsibly, allowing impared judgement to rule the day.

Moderation and/or judicious use across the board would probably eliminate these problems... but some people can't, as I'm sure you know.

BTW- Congratulations on 2 and a half years dry!!

ALCOHOL works on your body the way any allergen would. Your body therefore, tries to reject it. The only reason you get the affects you do, is because it isn't meant to be consumed in such large quantities. A beer or a shot a day is ok.(If you can keep it at such a minimum!)

Only when the human loses the control to it... its all about the human will. Just like how some have more addictive personality then others... but I always believe you as an individual self have the capability to fight it!

Like everyone knows... we only utilize 10% of our brains... where is our true capacity!

How did Lance fought cancer?

Like anything else, if you consume alot of anything it's bad. Alcohol puts so much strain on your kidneys and liver.

ALCOHOL SHOULD NOT BE LEGAL. EVERY DAY PEOPLE DIE FROM EITHER OVERDOSING ON ALCOHOL, DRINKING TOO MUCH WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG, OR A DRUNK DRIVING ACCIDENT WHICH SOMETIMES KILLS SOMEONE WHO WASN'T EVEN DRINKING. MARIJUANA IS NOT LEGAL YET HAS NEVER KILLED ANYONE....CIGARETTES AND ALCOHOL ARE LEGAL AND KILL HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT?????

The reason is is so deadly is b.c in most people it's good! Just like fast food...It's really good...but you have consequences if you eat it....You get fat and unhealthy! Another example is Brownies and cake...THEY ARE SO GOOD AND HARD TO RESIST!! BUT, THEY MAKE YOU FAT!!!....PEOPLE LIKE THE FEEL THEY GET WHEN THEY HAVE IT AND THEY THINK IT IS GOOD...BUT WITH EVERYTHING THAT IS GOOD THERE IS CONSEQUENCES!!!...LOL (WELL, IN MOST CASES!!!)
