Look at some of the hairdos for Oscar, Emmy etc. You will see a few french roll hairdos with the front loose.

Sure a wear a french roll from time to time, its a clasic and even though its much easier to do than the braid I often get compilments just the same.

Not to many, the new styles are tousled, but if you are in a professional situation a french roll is fine. It looks clean which is
perfect for some office jobs.
