It's your cat's personality. Most cats are very territorial, thus do not like people or other animals into 'their home' and around 'their person'.

Try a calming air freshener plug in specifically designed for cats. 1800petmeds.com has one. It emits a calming odor - great for separation anxiety and stressful situations.

Other than that, just love your cat unconditionally and speak in a calming, soothing tone to reassure it that everything is ok.

If the cat doesn't even like you to touch it, i'd say to just turn it loose outside...and as far away as you like. If the cat likes you and only you, then there is at least hope. If other people are around enough for the cat to get used to their presence, then it might somewhat warm up to them?

Cats are harder to figure out than women! No two are alike. They all like warmth, and they all like sleeping. Other than that, some like head scratches, some hate wet cat food, some like playing, some hate being brushed, some love tummy rubs, others hate it. Just try different things with it. Obviously others touching him are not something that makes it happy.

I had a cat that was permanently in PMS-mode. She was never happy to be held or loved on. There was nothing that we could do except try to love her. She became better in her old age and in a quiet house. If there are young kids in the house, that might contribute to the cat's unhappiness. Love her where she is.

My cat Catty lovessss catnip (he fights me for the bag and shoves his whole face in it then lays on the ground staring at the ceiling like he is seeing pink elephants) and they also love (or maybe they hate??) when I scrub hard on the spot where their tail connects to their back. It makes their back legs drag behind them and they look like they are peeing (but they dont). I think they like it cuz they always come back for more.

Oh, the sweet little thing.. cats are so seemingly independent but they are not.. You can make it happy by talking to it.. by rubbing its tummy and above all by brushing it.. cats LOVE to be brushed and it makes them very happy.

I would recommend that you confuse your cat so much that s/he gives it up and decides to be pleasant.
