In English they are all the same, but you are right, in many Indo-European languages there is a difference between silent and loud and the difference can be reconstructed for Proto-Indo-European. We just have the one word in English though.

Taivo and the many others are right, a fart is still a fart whether you can smell it or not!
My favorite term for farting, however,is "passing wind"!!!

In our house we call a silent fart S.B.D. Which my two children are very good at. If you can hear it, it is just a fart, with or with out the smell.

Eskimos have over 400 different words for farts, e.g. nice smelling farts, farts you can't hear, farts that melt ice, farts that repel hungry polar bears.

All farts are farts unless they are old, in which case you call them elders.
You can call them air biscuits, gut bombs, SBDs (Silent But Deadly), passing gas, flavoring the airways, dutch ovens, blue flames (When you set them on fire), butt trumpets, and queezing cheese. But these are all synnonyms for farting or a subset thereof. So, you can say "I pooted" or "Excuse me" if you prefer but a fart by anyother name can still clear the room and your sinuses.
